Welcome Jodie,

That's why we're here. I hope you stick around. I see too many teens come here, say hello, then bugger off back to teen land. Nothing wrong with enjoying life, but this D thing doesn't take time off.

Hey Jodie, welcome to the forums. I am 19, and have had an A1C of over 8 for the last couple of years. So I was a really, really bad teen when it came to diabetes. My last A1C was 9.2 (in my sig) and I have had to almost relearn everything, start from scratch just to get back under control. This site has helped me tremendously, I really can't think of any other source which has helped me this much. Most doctors or nurses just tell you to take your injections, eat the right stuff and you will be fine.

Anyway, hope to see you some more around here, you can learn a lot.

Welcome Jodie. I'm glad that you found us.
Also Happy to hear that things are going
better for you.

I was dxd. with Diabetes at age 3, so I know
where you are coming from.

I messed up a couple times when I was a teenager.
I forgot my Insulin shots one day and ended up in
a 3 day coma. I think that's how my retinopathy
got started. My Ophthalmologist caught the
problem so he lasered it and it turned out fine,
thankfully. It could've been Bad. Take Care. :)

Hi Jodie,

glad to hear that the forum has been so helpful to you - and glad to hear that you are back on track. Try to keep yourself on track, you will benefit later on down the road. I suggest that you consider going on a pump. you will find that the pump helps you maintain excellent control and gives you more freedom to make choices in life. I can remember (though it was a long time ago - back in the dark ages!!) when I was a teen and how important it was to blend in and do the same things everyone else was doing.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Talking with other diabetics and learning from one another is the best thing you can do for your psyche and diabetes imho.

I am SOOOOO stoked to meet people here at Vegas and Volunteering at a diabetic camp this summer. I love hanging out with other diabetics. I never feel more comfortable then when I am with other diabetics.

Hi Jodie & Welcome to our family. :flowers: Glad you found some things that worked for you.

Yep. We all kicked it up when we were teens, you're pretty normal in that regard. Enjoy your youth, but you will begin to see that you are growing responsible more quickly than most of your friends and be proud of that.

Hope you are here for many years and share your experiences with us and particularly other young members.

Mich

Hi Jodie: Welcome, glad you found the forum. I can only imagine how difficult it is to deal with diabetes as a young person...(i'm tired of it already and i've not had it a year yet!;) I'm very glad you're doing all you can to take good care of yourself. You'll have a healthier, happier and longer life that way...and that's what you deserve. Hang in there!
