This is my first time on this Forum and I am glad I found it.I have been a diabetic for 21 years.I am a 41 year old female and am healthy.I have no complications from diabetes.I have been through it all.I remember my first encounter with a low blood sugar where I was in a coma. When I was brought out I awoke in a hospital and was bewildered.I didn't know what had happened.I have had the same experience several times after that.I was given a warning through my doctor that if I didn't have better control I would end up being a vegetable.I thought of my children and the rest of my family and made up my mind to not try to have such stern control. In doing so I was having too many lows.
I take 3 shots a day.It is also a small amount.6 NPH in the am.3 Humolog at supper and 3 NPH at bedtime.:) I feel very fortunate that after all these years I am healthy.I would like to hear from other Type 1's and the ways they deal with this disease.

Hi Dee,

Take some time to look around. If you do, I suspect you may find postings by pumpers and MDIers of particular interest because the basal/bolus method of control generally seems to do better than the old method with 2 shots of NPH.

Welcome Dee. That's one of the strangest insulin regimines I've ever seen. Most cool if it works.

Do you do much BG testing to see if all hours of the day are covered ok?

Type 1 for 33 years now 44 years young. No complications. I did MDI for a lot of years and just recently 7 months ago went on a pump. Bets thing I ever did. My A1cs for the last 10 years have been in the 5.8 to 6.2 range. Keep up the good work. I have had many lows over the years never required any assistance but with the pump I have had fewer lows and a lot less severe ones at that. I was on NPH and Humalog until the pump. Come to find out I would have been better off on Lantus or a different long acting insulin. My endo was no help at all. I have since switched endos! I test about 10 to 12 times a day.

You may want to consider an MDI based treatment based on carb counting...

Welcome aboard :wavey:

Hi Dee,

Welcome to the forum. Great support and good observations on this board. I've been a type 1 for almost 48 years, on nearly every type of insulin there is. I've been pumping now for about a year and a half. I'm glad I found the forum too.
