hi folks

i'm writing for a friend who's mom has some diabetes issues. i'm not sure what type she is, or what medication she is on but i think my friend will chime in later today.

one of the most common problems she has is...upon waking up in the morning she goings into a sweat and gets very weak until she has a drink of orange juice.

any help would be much apreciated.

thanks
bob

Hello Robertsn....If she's taking insulin or even pills it sounds like she's waking up with low blood sugars. She needs to adjust her meds or eat something like peanut butter crackers or something so the carbs stay in her system longer. Something with fat content stays in the system longer, even cheese. Find out more about her diabetes and keep us informed. Also welcome to the forums. Good luck.:ciao:

It would be preferrable to drop her basal insulin a smidgin until it normalizes. The problem wih adding food is it is suspected to contribute to obesity. But we gotta have some idea of what meds she's taking and when.

It sounds like the whole bunch of you need to get on here and start getting some practical every day edumacation from people in the same boat or at least the same fleet.

Since you don't know what type she is, nor what meds she is on, and you hint at her having low blood sugar, there really isn't much to suggest except that she needs to want to help herself no matter what the diabetic problem may be. If she doesn't, you won't get very far with her.
