Hiya everyone
My name is Gail and I am mum to 7 year old Kieran who was diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic 5 weeks ago.
He is such a little star, he allows us to inject himself in all the appropriate injection sites (the first 2 weeks he would only allow us to do his arms.) and he can now test his own Blood Sugar and even inject his own Insulin.
He takes Novo Rapid before each meal and Lantus Glargine in the evenings.
I'm looking forward to reading the boards and getting to know people who are in the same boat as us.

Hi Angel2 and Welcome.
Kids are resilient, aren't they? It's good to see that he has taken such a good attitude about it all.
Again, welcome to you and Kieran. :)

Hi Gail, welcome. I'm sure you'll find lots of great information and support. Kieran sure sounds like a brave little boy. You'll be encouraged when you read about all the wonderful T1's on this forum and how well they have done over the years.
All the best,
Linda

Welcome Angel...My son was diagnosed with T1 when he was 4 and he was just like your son. Wouldn't let us give him a shot anywhere but in his arms then he finally let us inject him in his butt and legs. He also tests his own blood sugar. He is now pumping and knows how to give him self boluses for either highs or when he eats or both. I don't allow him to do it without either myself or my husband there with him. He doesn't complain about it either. Kids are amazing and can adjust to just about anything thrown at them. Good luck. You've definately come to the right place. :ciao:

God bless. My mom always told me she wish she could have been the one to have diabetes instead of me. In a way I think it was harder for her being responsible for my diabetes when I was young then it was for me having diabetes as a youngster. Way to take an interest in your son's health and hope you do as good of a job as my mom did :) . If you do your son will love you that much more for it.
