carbs on pasta package

I noticed that my package of penne says 60 grams of carb per cup / 85 grams. We've been calling it 40 a cup.... :eek:

My question: do pasta manufacturers give their count based on dry weight or cooked pasta? It doesn't seem to say anywhere...

On the label I'm looking at right now, it says dry.

Have you ever tried Carba-Nada noodles by al dente? The Carba-Nada only comes in fettucine noodles, but the carb count is 24g per serving!! It's the only pasta I have found that doesn't send my glucose sky high. They have a Roasted Garlic flavor that is so yummy. We now substitute it for regular spaghetti - my husband loves it, and he's not diabetic.

I go by the general rule of 15 carbs per 1/2 cup cooked pasta. It always works out correctly.

I go by 85 grams dry. I also always buy the whole wheat pastas because of their high fibre content and my whole family loves it. The blue label spaghetti at the Canadian Superstore has 19 grams of fibre per serving!

i had dreamfield pasta last night for dinner, had a whacking great big bowlful (2 servings)and only bolused for 10 grams carbs! not a blip in the BG's!

it tastes pretty good too (okay its not fresh pasta but it comes pretty close to the dried for me)
