View Full Version : Can different sites make that much difference?

I finally found a way to control my DP by waiting 30 mintues after I bolus for breakfast. My numbers for over a month have been incredible. The change happened the day I switched from the side of my "rear" to my stomach. Had amazingly great numbers for over a month and then yesterday my DP was back full force. The only difference was that it happened as soon as I moved from my stomach back to the side of my rear. Is this possible?

I've actually heard that different sites don't make a huge difference with analogs, mostly with R and the old suspensions.
According to BD, the Abs have the fastest absorption rate; "twice as fast" as the legs or arms.

I've found for me it makes almost no difference if I put my sets in my legs or stomach...I have yet to try my rear or arms for an insertion set.

I answered my own question and the answer is yes. For me, a site makes a huge difference. I tried a different site on my rear to make sure it wasn't the site. Still big time DP. Went back to my stomach this morning and DP gone. So now the problem is, I only have about 16 sites on my stomach so big dilemma about what to do since don't want to reuse sites that often.
I just can't believe this doesn't happen to anyone else.

I have just started to explore with new sites for my pump, and so far it has been good. I have been injecting in my stomach since the beginning, I was always afraid of doing it in my legs and could only do it in my left arm every now and then. When I started the pump about a year and a half ago, I was only taught to put my sites in my stomach.
However, after a year of changes every 3 days, I became unhappy with the sight of my stomach. It feels as if I'm building up tissue in my stomach, especially around my belly button, and it gives the appearance of a much heftier tummy than I have. So, I have ventured down to my legs for my sites and the first try has been good so far (and I had much better control thru the night).
I'm wondering if anybody has any useful sites that have information about scar tissue from injections/pump sites or advice on ways to perhaps minimize the problem (aside from the obvious of vacationing from using stomach sites for a while). I want to wear a bikini eventually without being so self conscious! :)

I've been using my lower abdomen for 16 months now and I'm starting to have absorption issues with new sets. If I put a new set in my lower abdomen now, I end up doing a temp basal for several hours (+100% to +200%) and I try to avoid eating for a few hours unless I bolus with a syringe. After several hours, everything mellows out and the set works fine. :hmmmm2:
I've given much consideration to alternate sites, but they don't seem that they would be very comfortable to convenient. Lately, I've simply trying to use my mid-abdomen whenever possible and that does seem to work better.

Well, I may encourage you that I also noticed that different sites have different insulin absorption and even I think that different need of insulin doses.I have been pumping since january and almost all my sets were put in the abdomen, but I tried twice in my arm and the insulin starts'working" later than usual.I should try the legs and the rear because it is imposiible to change the placement only in the belly.Sooner or later you will have scars:(

I don't use my abdomen at all. The mm instructions say that I need to be able to "pinch an inch" of soft tissue and there isn't even an half inch there. So I can't say if my abdomen is faster.
I do use both buttocks and thighs. If there is a difference in absorption, I haven't seen it.
I use either Quick sets or Silhouettes. Haven't tried the Sure-Ts.
DP is my current focus for improved control, and any solutions that help are much appreciated.
