As a treat for granddaughter's last day of elementary school, we took her to Applebee's, her favorite place to eat. I tested before we left and was 74. I did not want to take any Novolog as I didn't know what or when I would eat, so put my pen by my meter and walked out the door without it. I had one of their Weight Watchers meals....Portabella mushrooms and steak, it included red potatoes and a vegetable medley (Broccoli, carrots and somekind of squash),all very good and I ate every bite. As soon as we were back home, I took a medium dose of Novolog, hoping it was enough. Two hours after eating, I tested and was 79...I am seldom less than 140, at the 2 hour mark. I know I started low, but figured with the potatoes and sauce on the meat, and I did have a bite of Hubby's bread, it would send me up. I also had a bad headache before I ate, that went away with eating, but was back at 2 hours....just wonder if that is because of starting to go low. That happens in the middle of the night, sometimes. Anyway :), maybe Applebees, or at least Weight Watcher meals, aren't so bad for us?

Wow! I would love to have those numbers after a meal, or honestly anytime at this point. We are working on my Novolog dosing and I'm running too high... but the doctor's wanting to bring it down slow vs. jump the dose up and have me go too low. So frustrating!!! But that is really good news for you and gives me hope that we will eventually get it right :)

That's awesome Penny!! YaY :five:

Jill, you aren't taking any R (or fast acting) are you?? I would suggest this to your doc. Altho, they do need to get your numbers down in general too. But at least you'd be able to treat highs, and actually, that may just help with your numbers at other times. Think of it this way .... if you start out high (or higher) and you eat, you're only going to go higher. If you start out with a lower, better number, of course you're going to go higher when you eat, BUT, you won't be going SO high. Did that make sense? I did in my head! LOL May I ask how much mixed you are taking? and are you taking it only once a day, or twice a day?

Sorry to hijack your thread Penny!!!

Melissa, I am often guity of hyjacking, don't intend to but it ends up that way. :o I really seemed to get some control when I finally got my basal adjusted, but I think even that is helped by having lower post meal levels, because of the Novolog. So Jill, I agree maybe you should look into some fast acting. I was just pleased to find an "eat out" meal that did not cause a huge spike. I am kind of looking forward to seeing if it was just a fluke, or if this is one place I can enjoy once in awhile without worrying what it does to my numbers. I got gift cards for mother's day, and enough left for me and Hubby to eat there one more time, so might try again this week and let everyone know.
