Just wanted to say hi. My wife and I have 2 teenage boys, a 14 and 16 year old and the oldest was Dx with Type 1 a bit more than a month ago. He's still struggling with how it will affect his daily routine especially from a long term point of view but for the most part he's taking it on the chin and accepting it rather well. It's been a struggle for my wife and I as well both financially and emotionally but being we're crazy about our boys, it's an issue we must accept and seeing how well our 16 year old is accepting and adapting, makes it much easier on us. Hello scott, And welcome to the forum and here you get to learn on what to eat and exercise and injections etc. Also we have some fun here too. This disease is all about control and the complex food that we eat will make the Blood Glucose go wild and the insulin that you take will help curb that and watch for those lows!!! See that your boy has some form of jelly beans or something sweet with him. :)

Hi Scott and welcome to the forums. I am sorry to hear about your boy. I am the one with diabetes in our family (Mother of five grown kids). It will be a learning experience for you all, but your son will do well. Welcome.

Hi Scott, from another parent of a teen. It's a tough age to deal with this, but my son (diagnosed age 13) has been able to do pretty much everything he wants to -- it just takes more planning and care. I think once the everyday treatment part becomes more routine, the heaviest load for them is maybe the fact that they aren't ever able to forget about it, and just be a kid. Makes them grow up faster, for sure.

Take care, sounds like you've all made a good start at this new way of life.
