Lately, I find myself forgetting to breathe. Not sure what is up with that. It happens whenever, even when i'm sleeping. There is constant pressure in my chest which makes it very uncomfortable to breathe. It's quite disturbing. What is going on?

You need to tell your doctor about this.

It may sound very rude but how the heck do you expect any of us to know?
If you have medical problems go and see your Dr.

But if you forget to breath and end up dead ring the undertaker.
Sorry but stupid questions like this really anoy me. :banghead:

Whatever it is, I can assure you it's not related to diabetes. Do you even have diabetes? Cause if this is one of those, "Do I have Diabetes?" threads I may cry.

Hi There Ultra: Cool name. ;) Welcome to
the Forums.

I could be mistaken but the first condition
that crossed my mind was Sleep Apnea.
Many People have that condition nowadays
and anyone can get it. Diabetes doesn't
help any. Being over-weight and/or a smoker
can also be the cause. So losing weight/quitting
smoking will help alot.

If you have some of these symptoms you
should tell your Dr. and hopefully he will
be able to get you into a Sleep Disorder Clinic.
They will test you(over night)and suggest the
treatment for you.

I know what you mean. I quit smoking 2+ yrs.
ago and I can actually get through a 2 weeks
without gasping for air.

Welcome and Good Luck.

p.s. It could also be a panic/anxiety attack.
Just google: panic anxiety attack symptoms

That should get you there.

I agree with KickStart, It sounds like Sleep Apnea, which is something else I have. YEA!! heh. Anyways, talk to your general doc and if they think that could be it they will have you goto a sleep center and they monitor your breathing and movements all night. Also, KickStart is correct about being over weight being a big contributor to Sleep Apnea. My cpap machine has definately helped my breathing through the night now. But like the others said only you and your doctor can figure this out.

That is one of those questions only doctors can answer and maybe not even then. I'd go asap and push for chest xrays. I'd even go to ER if my GP or after-hours clinic couldn't get me in.

I've only eexperienced breathing difficulties once when I was very hypo and had convinced myself that I lost the ability to breathe on my own. I doubt this is you.

Welcome to the board.

Breathing is something I really don't think about...it just happens on it's own. I do think this is something you should mention to your doctor. It may be that you're not forgetting to breathe, but that you're not breathing deeply enough to fully fill your lungs...if you were truly forgetting to breathe, you'd probably pass out, then start breathing normally (provided you didn't fall, bust open your head and bleed to death)...My point is...it could be anything or nothing...none of us are qualified to answer...but you should talk with someone who can.

There could be one of a million reasons for your health problem. Call your doctor and don't try and self diagnose this one.

Good luck and keep us informed.

It sounds almost like asthma,or you could be having some sort of anxiety. The more you think about your not breathing, the more you aren't taking in deep breaths. Tell your doctor about this. Sorry you got some RUDE replys.,most on this forum want to help.

It doesn't sound like asthma to me. I don't forget to breath, I struggle to breath when my asthma flares.

I don't think SueM was wrong, although she might have worded the post a little nicer.

It's common knowledge that a feeling of "pressure in my chest which makes it very uncomfortable to breathe" is a classic symptom of heart failure. You should be at the emergency room and not posting a question about it in a forum. You could be dead before you finish typing!

You all offer possibilities to what might be going on with this person when the only advice you should be offering is "don't ask us, get medical attention now!".

Wow, thanks for all the replies! :)

Yes, i am a type one diabetic and have been for 18 years. I did make an appointment to go see my GP which is going to be in a couple of weeks. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks andypoo for standing up for me! It certainly was rude of SueM.

UltraFine - I'm not trying to be a doctor or anything - but something I was diagnosed with recently was sleep apnea. Now, during a sleep study they noticed I had more obstructive apneas than central apneas (brain not doing its job and telling me to breath.) If you're like me and built like an apple (carrying most of your body weight in your torso) rather than a pear, this could account for the lack of breathing in the night. But - you do need to see what the doc says.

Quick question: are you usually very tired? So much that it's affecting your job, and you feel like you absolutely MUST take a nap? Or that no matter how much sleep you get, you just never seem refreshed? If so - do relay that to the doctors as well.

I'm sorry to hear that you have sleep apnea. My weight is in the range of what it should be according to the BMI.
Lately, i have been very tired and have been naping often but im thinking this is to do with my allergies and the medicine i am taking for it.
