Hi!
I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes last November 2006. I am currently not taking any medications for it, trying to control it with diet and weight loss. (37 pounds down-68 to go!) My A1c in April came back higher even though I've really been trying to do everything right. I am just finishing the Diabetic classes at our local hospital. I have been really frustrated the last couple of weeks because I have been sick so my multiple daily test results have been all over the boards. It feels like things will never "even out"! I'm glad to find so many people that have or have had these issues in common with me. I'm just doing my best to get through one day at a time. Having so much support and available knowledge and experience from others will definitely be a boon to my morale!
Thanks!
Madeline

Hi Maddye,
And welcome to DF. I was just diagnosed last month and was lucky enough to find this web site the first day. I just got done taking a two day educational lecture on Diabetes through my local hospital and i was amazed at how little the others in the class knew about Diabetes. Some have been dealing with it for a year or two and knew virtually nothing. I've had it two weeks and learned tons by reading through this web site.
Good for you for controlling your meds with diet and weight loss. That's my goal too. I've got a good start on the diet, now I need to get the exercise thing down.
Good luck with it all.

:) WELCOME DAVE AND MADELINE BOTH!!! I too found this webiste, the same day I was diagnosed. I have learned WAY more, than anyone could have taught me in a class. Plus, the members here are like family, and I havent missed a day being on line with them. Again, welcome and hope to get to know you both better!...Bryan

Hi Madeline, welcome! So glad you found the site. It is a lifesaver, so much information and great folks as well.
Sounds like you're being very proactive in taking care of your diabetes..this will serve you well.
I'd encourage you to test, test, test...esp. 2 hrs after your meals, so you can see how certain foods affect your levels. You'll be able to make better choices this way.
Things do get easier as time passes and you see results from all your hard work.
Hang in there!
Linda
