I saw my dr today.. I had bloodwork done on Monday and I got the results today...

I knew my numbers would be high.. A1C is 9.4 overall cholesterol is 210, HDL 53, LDL 141.

I have severe family history of heart disease and with being diabetic its worse.

I will be making another diet change, and now I have to exercise.. no choice.. otherwise I will be going on Lipitor...

I am upset with myself becuase I did this, but now I am more determined to make it better...

I was sitting in the hospital with my wife(she had surgery) last night, so I decided to build a program so I could see my BG readings.. when I saw how eratic and high I have been.. it woke me up...

don't beat me up too bad!

Grumpee,

KAPOW - there you've been beaten up. Wasn't so bad was it? :whistling
lol J/K!

Kudos to you for recognizing a potentially critical situation and taking the initiative to change! Sounds to me like you're on the right path.

No beating up here. My husband has had high cholesterol for years. About a year ago his tryglicerides were 1289, and his cholest was over 250. We say a cardiac specialist who advised him to drink more juice and lose weight.

Guess what? Losing weight was necessary and he's lost over 30 lbs, but drinking fruit juice and eating fruit causes the cholesterol to go up. I don't understand the exact equation, but it has something to do w/ how fruit/fruit sugars are metabolized. We learned this from the dietician. I'd suggest you see one if you're not already. She and not the docs was the greatest help in getting Stan healthy again.

Hope my suggestion helps a bit,
HeatherP

Don't feel too bad, Grumpee....we all need wake up calls like that to get us back on track with our diabetes. I know mine's coming up soon! :)

Grumpee, like Shy said, it is good that you are realizing the steps you need to make to help yourself as much as possible. It begins with ourselves, but you also have to remember that genetics plays a role also so don't beat yourself up too badly!

I'm with Jenny and Shy, I think this is just a wake-up call for you and it's great that you realize that you need to work on improving things. That's the first step, the next one is making a realistic plan for yourself. Also, I would suggest not trying to change things too fast or too extremely, when changes are made like that they don't tend to work. Working with your doctor and a nutritionist can help you get on the right track, along with making exercise a priority in your life. These things are so important for your health.

And please don't think that we would beat you for this, we are your support system and we are here for you. Besides, I'm sure you have beat yourself up already anyway, which is natural...lol :D So don't even worry about that. If there is anything we can do to help you out here let us know, ok?

Take care and Good luck!

I have the paperwork to go see a dietician soon.. although my INS probably won't cover it... like they don't cover my testing strips! ok, calm down.. INS gets me going... ;)

I am starting things gradually this time.. I made my Dr laugh yesterday.. he asked me to pick a finger so he could check my sugar, and I looked at my hands and said, 'Ok, which one of you hasn't been picked on lately?'..

Although I need to make diet changes pretty quickly..

Thanks for the support!
