Has anyone placed an infusion set on their upper extremities? I'm currently using the tops of my thighs and lower abdomen but just wondered how the sets are in the arms. I'm pretty sure I have enough fat up there...I've noticed with the years that I'm developing the grandma arms!

Never done it myself but one of the women I work with does it every now and then with her pump. Doesn't seem to cause any problems, as long as your tubing is long enough. I generally use the Minimed quicksets with 23" tubing. By the time I weave it through the waist line and under my shirt, I'd be out of tube before I ever reached my arm!

The backside of my upper arm is my favorite place for a site. I never catch it on my clothes, and I don't really feel it at all the whole time it's there. I do, however, use the 42" (43"?) tubing.

With the shorter 23" length, it might be possible for gals to still do the arm sites if the pump is tucked in/clipped on the bra. A guy might be able to put the pump in a shirt pocket, and snip a little hole behind the pocket for the tubing to run inside the shirt.

cheers,

I have thought about trying the upper arm, but think I will wait until winter and long sleeve shirts. In the summer, I wear sleeveless a lot.

I wonder how often you get the site caught up on clothes????

During the week, when I have to wear pantyhose... :( I often sort of catch the edge of the set if it is in my legs or my hip - very rarely bad enough to rip it out, just enough to sort of give a tug and owww! Not very often on days off. :)

I did manage to catch my CGMS sensor site (above the waist) this afternoon somehow when I was changing out of my work clothes for the evening. I don't know how I did it - but I did. :o Now that was odd. I managed to pull the paper tape completely off on the top edge, pulled the sensor tape half loose, but apparently left enough (most?) of the sensor in and it's still working fine an hour later (sensor day 8). (I just taped it back down good with my paper tape.)

cheers,
j

I understand Jenet. I caught mine on a door handle today while I was cleaning. Not enough to do damage, but it definitely stopped me in my tracks. LOL
