Hello everyone! I'm Hannah, 17 and I live in Australia. I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes but I think I might due to my symptoms. Dizziness, extreme tiredness that is getting worse, constant thirst and dry mouth- no matter how much I drink, visit the bathroom at least 7 times a day, have really dry skin, really bad headaches and am constantly hungry! does this sound like diabetes? I am going to the doctor on monday. How is diabetes diagnosed? and will I have to ask my doctor to test or will he do it automatically? thanks! :)

Dear, don't wait untill Monday. Go see a doctor asap. ER if there's no one else to call. You don't want to wait. If it is D you need to be on meds asap. You are starving to death and ketoacidosis has probably already set in.
Take a bag and be prepared to be hospitalized. I was a week back in the 70's. It is probably at least a couple day stay today. They will do a finger prick and take blood. You will probably aslo go on an IV drip. Then there's D training. You'll learn a lot and forget more, so when your out on your own, come back here and start your real education.
Have no fear.

The point that was made is it is not in your head. Those symptoms are real and what xMenace said is key, get in, get tested, and know for sure. It doesn't take but a few minutes to find out
Good luck and let us know what's happening.

Whats more important your life or missing work for a day?
Untreated diabetes is a life threat.

I was just diagnosed last month. And I almost didn't go to the doctor. Do yourself a favor, get tested. Your health is way more important than any job. Jobs come and go, your health is what keeps you alive.

Good luck and do let us know. It might take longer to get your results, depending upon the clinic and if they send the blood samples out for testing. My doctor has the lab at the clinic so i normally find out same day.

It's John,
I mean they may admit you. It's pretty common for new type 1's to be admitted depending on how far along you are. There's a good chance you are dehydrated and ketoacidosis has set in. You also can't be sent out with no training. Taking insulin is pretty serious. We don't do it without having a good idea of the expected impacts. OD's can kill or lead to brain damage. UD's lead to long term complications.
The main reason type 1's come here is to learn to manage their insulin regimine better.
Hopefully you won't need to learn all this, but if you do, you have more important things to do than chat with us. That can come later.

IMO the most important thing to do if you are diagnosed is to accept it and not rebel. http://www.diabetesforums.com/forum/eyes/19698-news-teen-rebellion-cost.html#post234293
I know you are young and want to enjoy life to it's fullest, but you'll have to make some serious sacrifices. They are as follows
Lose the dream of being a helicopter pilot, airline pilot, and possibly schoolbus driver.
... Can anyone remember what #2 was? ... :stupido2:
Seriously, all T1 noobs, get it into your head that you can do 99.999% of life's activities, but you do need to control how your body works as you do them. The long term risks are real. I'm bordering on blindness as many here are. 80% are supposed to die of heart failure. Some here are missing feet, toes, and legs. Some have had organ transplants. I've been 911'd (medical emergency) 5 times. But I also grew up playing competetive sports, went through university, got a professional accounting designation, got married, had kids, etc, etc, etc --- lived life. Make sure you get your butt back here and learn how to do it from the pros. ;) There is so much to learn here.

So if I do have diabetes do you think I have type 1 or type 2?

Probably type 1. The incidence of type 2 do seem to be growing though:
