Jan 18, 1983 exactly one year to the day after my brother's diagnosis.
Not sure how long symptons showed before diagnosis but my mom knew exactly what it was since my brother had the same symptons at diagnosis.

Spring, type 1, symptoms for 3-4 weeks, during which time I was visiting my brother in Boston for a vacation devoted to trying new restaurants. I taxed my poor beta cells to the point of no return, and experienced no honeymoon after diagnosis. Even for a type 1, 3 weeks is a fairly short period of time to fry your betas, but I had some Good Food!

It was February for me. That was 39 years ago and I was 10 so I don't remember much. I do remember drinking a lot of water and urinating a lot. I also remember being hungry all the time and losing weight but I don't remember when it started. The only time I remember being sick was that morning I went into the hospital. I felt so bad that day I didn't want to go to school. I can't remember feeling sick before then.

I was dx'ed in July. Type 1. I'd had a variety of symptoms at the severe level for about 7 weeks...but i didn't realize they were related to one another, and sort of rationalized them all off. My doc took a MAJOR history and told me he thought I'd been showing signs, although small, for about 10 years.

I was dx'd T2, August 17 2005. Other than High BG (and a nasty yeast infection [eW] when dx'd) I can't say I had any symptoms that I could/can recognize. I've pretty much always drank alot of fluids, therefore went potty alot! I did however have high BG's (200 on up) for at LEAST 3 years previous to dx. I just didn't know then, what I know now!

October 21 years ago this October. I think I showed signs for about three weeks and then was sick as a dog for about another three weeks. Lost about thirty pounds and was hospitalized at the end for 8 days or so.

I was dx'ed with T1 in April of 2002... I had been experiencing symptoms for quite a while, but put off seeing a doctor due to no insurance covg. @ the time. Finally, I had to bite the bullet and go- I felt that awful. It goes w/o saying that it's changed my life forever.

well offically in doctors records i was diagnosed dec 1999, thats when i had an OGTT, but i didn't find out my results until the 7th feb 2000, so i count that as my diagnosis date. I have mild symptoms from october 1999.

Hi Sharon:
Holy Cow 5 years? Why weren't you dxd. sooner??
December/Type 1/dxd. age 3. My 2 older Brothers
were both dxd. at age 4, so my Mom kept a look out
for the same symptoms with me. So it didn't take
long before I was on the shots.
Our country Doc had sent my oldest Brother to a
Hospital in the city when he dxd. him. The Doctors/
Nurses caused him to have not one but 2 bad seizures
while he was there. After that our Dr. refused to send
me and my younger Brother to a Hospital. He just told
Mom how much Insulin to give us. With just the urine
testing back then, I wonder how he figured how much
Insulin but we did have lots of seizures and highs. Oh well...

October--but had been sick most of the summer--I am told it very well could have followed a 6 month pattern after the flu in February.

Hi Sharon:
Holy Cow 5 years? Why weren't you dxd. sooner??
i put my symptoms down as stress because they always seemed to be worse when i was under pressure at work. as type 1.5 is progressive i guess my beta cells finally blew a gasket last year. chances are if i'd actually gone to the docs earlier it would have been picked up sooner, i just didnt think there was anything seriously wrong with me....how wrong can ya be?

Wow, that's for sure. You must have felt like death
warmed over sometimes.? Oh, I guess your "honeymooning
Insulin" would have kept you from that usually. I'm glad
that you didn't have any complications due to the long
wait. Thankfully you finally were dxd. This disease is
weird. ;)

I had symptoms in August, diagnosed in September by OGTT, didn't get really sick till October...
NB endo initially said slow onset T1 - in October was told type 1...

I have been diabetic for 15 yrs. The first part was on meds and then I got pancretitis and was told I killed my pancretis (sp) Every since I have been on insulin. I hardly remember when this happened. Most of the time I was unconsisous.

Didn't have symptoms that I knew of, it showed up in my routine yearly exam.

Diagnosed in June 1991. I know that with T1 cells are supposedly destroyed in record time, but I had mild symptoms as far back as two years prior to dx. My fasting bg in December 1989 was 5.0 and I was advised to quit being a hypochondriac  although I'd never exhibited excessive worry over my health - even after diagnosis, as proven by some terrible subsequent a1cs. :T

Dx'd Type 1 on April 18, 2003, two days before Easter that year. Thinking back, I had symptoms at least 5 years prior to being dx'd but was not one who went for an annual physical each year. At the time, I should have known better because my younger brother was also a Type 1.

September 1984. Type 1. Had the extreme thirst and frequent urination. Also had recurring ear infections.
Diagnosed Jan 8th 2007 afer being ill a few weeks. Stuffing myself solidly for the 2 weeks around Christmas probably didn't help me much...
