Hi,

While searching for side effects for a particular drug, I happened upon this site and checked out the Avandia reports.

for what it's worth, if any of you are interested, you might check this out too. first is the 'home page' of the entire site.
next is the specific URL for just avandia.

Drug Side Effects - Drug interactions, zoloft drug side effects, celestamine side effects and other drug side effects (http://www.patientsville.com/)

AVANDIA side effects and interactions. Learn about medical symptoms and prescription drugs interactions, reported by thousands of patients. (http://patientsville.com/medication/avandia_side_effects.htm)

Along with Avandia they also have listed Actos, Byetta, Glucophage, Glyburide, and Insulin. Guess we are all SOL.

of course not...!!!

but i found it is very interesting to see the symptoms/problems that have been reported already about something i personally experienced. it's nice to know i'm not imagining those things.

as we know, everyone reacts to medication and their disease differently. and again, it bears repeating...YOU need to know what your body is doing and when to make changes.

i am EVER SO GRATEFUL that i got off Avandia when i did.
it has made the world of difference to me. but it may not work for everyone the same way.

we need to become our own advocates and learn everything we can about our diseases. I sincerely believe that's true
and that's my message. I know you agree with me on that as well.

You would be surprised how many people will see a site like that and stop taking their meds. Only to turn around and buy some cure all snake oil they have no idea of what the ingredients are.

Actually, I'm NOT at all surprised. I live in a very rural part of the cosmos and ignorance (and stupidity) is rampant when it comes to matters of health. I could tell you stories you wouldn't believe. Well, maybe you would...

in particular...a local carpenter, developed a skin rash and actually went to see a doctor in town (usually, they don't do that) who prescribed oral cortisone. well, low and behold, it cured the rash and made the carpenter feel good...but he kept on taking it...for 8 years...

he's now totally blind! no one told him to STOP taking the medication. You don't need prescriptions here to get meds (except narcotics) so he kept buying more.

and then there's a woman with BG levels in the 500s...I kid you not!! after badgering her for weeks last year, I finally got her to see a doctor. He told her what to do, prescribed medication for her to take...she took it for a month and that was IT! she figured that after a month, it should have worked and she was cured. When i saw her again last week, she was waiting for the local minibus to take her back to her village (she comes here to visit her married daughter). She was sitting on the ground and I saw her ankles...the swelling was incredible! I was horrified. I fully expect to learn that she's no longer above the ground.

Ignorance reigns supreme, I'm very sorry to say.

and the beat goes on...

let's all hope that none of us are that ignorant. Isn't that what this list is partially about? You've all been very helpful to me these past two years since i was diagnosed. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!

Unfortunately that list reported cases in a way which could be done much better. Each of the cases listed every malady and medication the patient had. Which by the way it's done gives the impression that the maladies were caused by the medication, and the listed medications were used to treat the side effects. I know they did it for brevity, but it gives the wrong impression.

Well it's not just the ignorant. People that would not normally not fall for scams will sometimes do so because of a reduction in reasoning due to disease, medication, and slipping away into dementia. Seen my mother go through this and the people coming out of the wood work to take advantage of her. Which is why I have no tolerance for them.

Your Welcomed and Thank You! As much as I have seen the seedy side of people and been discouraged by them. This site gives me hope in seeing the number of people that come here desperate for help and knowledge. Then turn around and spend time helping others out gives me hope. After all that it what it's all about.
