How do you dispose of your sharps container when it's full? I bought a red plastic sharps container with a lid but have never thought about how to dispose of it. As always, thanks for your replies :)
I went to my city's website and looked under Environmental Health--Household Hazardous Waste.
I found that my particular area will accept any hard-sided plastic container full of sharps in our regular trash pick up if it is marked "Medical Waste."
I save my bleach bottles for the purpose, but they also will supply them if I contact Environmental Health.

Take it into your pharmacy.

Check with your local hospital. I return my sharps container to the hospital when it is full - on Wednesdays, that is the day for pick up where i go. They will give you a new container.

I also get a free one at my Pharmacy, fill it up,
return it to them and they give me another one
everytime I bring a full one in.

I'm in Virginia. My nurse told me it's okay to use a drink bottle w/ a screw on lid. I use a gator ade bottle, b/c they have bigger openings. When it's full, I just throw it in the trash (with the lid on of course) and was told this is acceptable in my state.

I've been told the same in Minnesota, although the recommendation here was a milk jug (provided the lid screws on instead of snapping on) rather than a drink bottle and it's supposed to have something like "do not recycle - household medical waste" written on it.
