Hi,
I'm new here. Diagnosed with pre-diabetes in 2003, but didn't do anything about it. Recently a dear friend of mine lost all the toes on her left foot and her right leg just below the knee due to complications of diabetes. It was a HUGE wake up call to me. I immediately began seeing the nutirtionist at the diabetes center where I work. She has me counting carbs - 3 meals of 50 and 2 snacks of 25 per day. So far I've lost about 10 lbs, and have 50 to go. I'm determined to turn this around and hopefully not progress to T2.
I'm really excited to be here.

Welcome Caro! Glad you found the forum. Hope you continue to do all you can to keep T2 at bay. Do you have an annual A1C to keep tabs on things?
Keep up the good work.
Again, Welcome!

Greetings, Caro...
Glad to hear you heard the "wake-up call". If you pay close attention you can hopefully avoid full-blown diabetes - its worth it to focus on prevention. Very sorry to hear that your friend has had such a rough journey. But..its never too late to wake up and prevent further complications - I am sure your new-found focus will help her as well.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
Just came back from my first workout at the local pool. DH and I just walked up and down in the lap pool rather briskly for about 30 - 45mins. When I got out my legs felt like rubber. I think we'll try to do it at least 3 or 4 times a week. (I'm having some joint problems walking around the neighborhood).

Hello and welcome to this wonderful place Caro! I couldn't do without it.
I recently joined a gym (4-5 weeks ago I guess) and I find that stretching makes all the difference when I exercise. I still have my brisk walks too but now I stretch before and (especially!) after. I don't ache all over and my legs don't feel like rubber.
The very best to you!
