In case anyone doesn't know, I wanted to post that you can still get free loaners from Smith's. Minimed charges $50.00 from what I have read. All that we did was print out a form that they have online and fill it out and fax it to them. Had it within a week. Brand new refurbished and purple, which is the color my daughter would ordered if she could have. The case was dated this month, so I really wish that they hadn't discontinued the purple. I'm tempted to see if we can trade and send the blue one back instead of the loaner.

Was the purple one an 1800? I bet they would let you. That would be cool. I was super disappointed they discontinued the purple, but glad I still have my purple.

Yes, it is an 1800. In fact just made this month! It even still had the correct time set. I am thinking that they will eventually stop making purple once they have done all of the upgrades. I am afraid that if we ask for it and get to keep it, that there will be a problem with it. It is one thing when you are having a problem, but going from the Minimed pump to this one was scary for me. I really learned to trust that pump, and it took a while for me to trust that this one would be as good. Just me I guess, but you are putting a lot of faith in that little bugger!

Can you post the link to the form? I can't seem to find it! My husband and I will be going on a 3-week cruise/tour and I would LOVE for him to have a loaner to take along!

Never mind - I finally found it

What is the loaner for? Is it just so you have a back up pump with you incase the one you have breaks or do you plan on using the loaner only?? If that is the case I had no idea that you could do that. Thanks.

Yes it's so you will have a back-up to use. Animas also offers free loaners. I called pump support on a Wed. and had it delivered to me by Mon. I felt very secure knowing I had a spare with me.

One thing about the vacation loaners...you have to give Smith Medical your credit card number so they can charge you for it if you don't return it. I believe you have two weeks after you return from vacation to return it. If it is stolen or lost while on vacation...you are out the cost of the pump. We checked with our home insurance company and they would cover my pump if it is stolen or lost but not the borrowed one. So, I decided not to borrow a loaner pump. I took extra syringes just in case I had a problem. I've traveled all over the world with my pump and had no problems. Our travel insurance doesn't cover it either...

My home insurance company just added the loaner for the 8 days I had it. My everyday pump costs just $9 a year to insure.

Hmmmm...There's an idea I never thought about, insuring my pump.

I never thought about it either until Animas told me I would be responsible for replacement of the loaner if anything happened to it. They suggested that I call my insurance company which I did and at that time I added my own pump.

It's basically in the same category as jewelry. So it needs it's own insurance premium.

I for one don't insure mine. But I know the chances of it being stolen are slim to none. The chances of it being damaged are alot more but even then, they seem to be built solid enough to take a good beating.

Under our home insurance, I don't pay extra to insure my pump. It is covered under personal property. It is covered if lost or stolen at home or while traveling. I figured someone would have to really work to steal it while I'm wearing it...

I am going to check with my insurance company today. I have USAA home owners insurance and I will check back with you after I get some answers. I am going to Mexico in a couple of weeks and I decided against a loaner this time. I am taking a bottle of Lantus with me and some syringes as recommended by someone on this board that also went to Mexico.

I think it would smart for everyone to check with your homeowners insurance to see if you were covered while traveling. There are those few occassions where you take it off to swim or snorkel.

I have USAA also and would be interested to know what they say. They're always such a pleasure to work with.
