View Full Version : Antipersperant under sets?

Since the hot weather set in, we've had a heck of a time keeping Aaron's sets on, even with Skin Tac, even with Skin Tac AND a tegaderm. He's wakened up twice high, with the set pulled right off.

I've heard of people using antiperspirant on their skin to reduce sweating under the set. Does anyone here do that? I'm having trouble figuring out the order of operations: Antiperspirant first, IV prep and Skin Tac 2nd? (Or would the IV prep wipe off the antiperspirant?) Antiperspirant last (but would that contaminate your clean site)??

Perhaps you should try a different type of set...

We have THREE that he uses. The Inset (Aaron's favourite) is unfortunately the worst for sticking. I think that one's just not going to work through the summer. But even the Comfort, which has been pretty darn reliable, is peeling up after only a day. Very frustrating.

Id suggest Matisol it works well its a skin/adhesive glue good for sets.

I have had this same problem. I thought it was do to the pool but I think it is probably just me swetting. Check out the thread "Can't get a set to stick while swimming". I tried much of the same things you tried but finally found the Benzoin Tincture Compound so far to be the best thing. The liquid is extremely sticky. Best of Luck.

In my opinion, when something doesn't stick, use mastisol. Its essentially super glue for your skin. You should make sure to have some detachol on hand though for when you're finally ready to remove your set.

I'm surprised people are having so many problems with sets even when using tegaderm. Even when I sweat a ton, neither my set or glucose sensor comes off. I use Tegaderm HP (holding power) to secure the glucose sensor.
