Hey! I used to live in piqua and tipp! just wanted to throw that in there. I got family that lives in Fairborn and Fort Loramie (sp?)

Eat half the fries and give the rest to a friend or family member, or even just toss them out.

Do not order biggie sizes'

choose grilled chicken over anything else if possible. especially burgers.

most fast food places is now putting in better choices to eat such as wendy's, you can get a side salad instead of fries, or even a baked potatoe is better then fries because they are not fried they are baked.

if your bun is huge, only eat the bottom, take off the top.

Some people get mad at me for eating fast food, but I have lost 70lbs still eating fast food 3 times a week at least. They get mad because somethings I choose are a bit high in fat, but the fat keeps the BGL's down in my situations so I think its all good! lol

I love taco bell! regular chicken soft taco's, chicken supreme gordita's!

I love sonic's grilled chicken wrap, grilled chicken sandwiches!

always drink diet cola's or water. Sonic has a wonderful Diet Cherry Limeaide! Tastes so good!

Subway, you can now get apples as a side instead of chips.

Lost of things you can do.....

...Don't!;) Seriously, I do try to limit my fast-food intake....I was a french fry junkie...and no matter what I do, I can't make that side salad taste like a french fry!:D

If i'm eating fast food, i'll usually have the chicken nuggets...i've found that I can eat these without difficulty. At Taco Bell, i'll have a bean burrito or soft chicken taco (and have them add extra lettuce/cheese/sour cream to make it seem more filling). I avoid McDonald's as it stresses me NOT getting to have the fries.

I also do as Stacy mentioned and eat only the bottom half of the bun. If we are having fast food, i'll usually just go through the drive thru and take it home where I can have a s/f pudding for dessert and not have to look at everyone elses food...Even after 8 months of diabetes, I still have "food-envy." Sad, isn't it?

I avoid fast food like the plague. Every time I eat fast food it grosses me out so I avoid it. I am a picky eater.

And I live down the road from you in Kettering. :) I just skip the fries all together. I might take 2 or 3 from Hubby, but I am finally to the point where I don't even want them anymore. We usually go to Wendy's, I get a small chilli and a jr. cheeseburger....I figure at least the chili has some fiber. I always try to get them to substitute veggies, the rare times we eat someplace else.

Cut down on the bread and potatos. Get rid of the BOTTOM of the sandwich(the top has all the good stuff!) Also if you remove the bottom, you dont end up with all the condiments in your mustache. The chickens absolutely love french fries
(you will burn a few calories watching their antics!)After 6:00pm I recommend exchanging the soft drink for a cold Bud in one of the diet versions! Other than that it's all good! JMHO

As someone who spent a good part of his youth working at Arby's and McDonald's (with a brief stint at Steak 'n Shake thrown in for good measure), let me say this: let the kids who can, without batting an eyelash, work off the bad fats, sodium and carbs that these places serve in abundance frequent these joints. If you're not willing or able to exercise strenuously for an hour immediately after going to a fast food joint to keep your glucose levels down, then pack a lunch or go to a salad bar. At least that's what a lot of testing has shown works for me.

It seems that I just can't eat French fries anymore, and bread and tortillas (even the so-called "low carb," whole grain kind) also send my glucose levels to the stratosphere. It took a little getting used to, but I don't miss bread or fried potatoes anymore at all. Funny thing is that I can eat a baked potato without a problem. So for me it's not a question of getting rid of all starches and grains (I definitely eat more carbs than some folks on this site), but just getting rid of the really processed kind.

One prob I have found on the few occasions I have eaten fast food is the fact that my BG's would go thru the roof for an hour and then plummet. So I avoid. I prefere rice, meat and veg cooked in a traditional method persian/asian style is my fav at the moment.
eeeek if only I had an appitite

With fast food or any restaurant, simply be smart and eat diabetic friendly.

The older I get, the more the idea of fast food grosses me out. I've just known too many people who got mild food poisoning eating fast food. I' don't like thinking of how they industrially take odd bits of meat and gristle, and glue it together to make a chicken nugget, or hamburger patty. Salads usually have been made for hours and sit in a clear plastic box, fuming the stuff that plastics do as the vegetables get limp and dried. Cheese is plastic weird orange stuff. Tomatoes are pale and either mealy, hard, or both. The breads on fast food sandwiches are usually the worst breads available in all the USA. Horrible stuff, to my palate. I wonder whether the employees wash their hands. I see them touch their faces or handle money and then assemble and wrap sandwiches. I see them mop the dining room with nasty grey, water and a smelly, mildewed, greasy mop and think, if this is how they clean right in full view of the customers, what are the standards of cleanliness in the kitchen where we cannot see?

These factors dampen my appetite for fast food considerably. And that is a good thing, because there is not much there that doesn't send my blood sugar too high.

I will, however, drink coffee from McDonald's or White Castle. No problem with BG there. But I guess that is not what you are asking. ;)

My only tip is that some Burger Kings offer to serve you their grilled chicken breast sandwich without the bread if you ask. And it does appear to be chicken meat as it actually came off the chicken, rather than a composite slab. But then, they don't always have a knife for you to use with your fork.

Wow elm.....you SAID exactly how I feel perfectly! Fast food is really nasty. If I have to eat fast food, I will choose the fruit salad or at Carl's Jr., you can get a veggie burger. Those are ok. Honestly, I am really picky about what I eat. I can't stand anything "turkey". White, processed meat looks...well...dead. hmmmm :whistling

I think fast food is pretty yucky too but I'll always remember at the end of Super Size Me they asked the guy who ate several Big Macs a day how he was still skinny and he said he rarely ate the fries or drank the soda.

Every now and then while traveling, a small burger is just the ticket. I go to IN AND OUT and get a cheeseburger "protein style" which comes with all the onion, tomato, etc. but wrapped in crunchy cold lettuce leaves. I also ask them to grill the onions which adds more flavor.

Like Penny, I eat 2-3 of my hubby's fries or don't order them at all. I car travel with my cooler of diet Peach Snapple so I don't need to order a drink.

I take off half or all of the bread on anything I order, avoid most fruits but eat good fats if I want. I just keep in mind my carb intake for the whole day, and if I eat protein, I bolus for it, especially when on long rides.

If I want nuggets i eat a salad with it, If I want a sandwhich, I eat a sandwhich, but nothing else....except a salad, i avoid french fries except at chick fil lay, they fry in 100% peanut oil, so it is all good.....at subway, i eat a grilled chicken salad or a turkey breast wrap, if I eat a salad i go for a cookie Yummy.....I eat sonic grilled chicken wraps, and the mozerella sticks......

If you want burgers go for the junior sizes, mc'd also has a good granola yoguart, and wendy's chili is not high in carbs either, there mandarin salad is good, just put the dressing and nothing else that comes in the packets and it is not a lot of carbs....

I avoid sandwhiches though, I just too it is not bolus worthy to me........and i avoid french fries except at chik fil lay not bolus worthy either......I do fine and feel completely normal.....and all, now if they just would serve diet stuff only with splenda in it, then I will be happy, that is when i get upset,

I can't bring myself to go, even aside from the BG issues of "what do I eat" and to think I used to LOVE Taco Bell.
