Was on it for a year, medicare D just nixed it.
I lost some weight, which I likes a lot. I got constipated, which I did't like. My appitite was much easier to control for the first time in my life - I felt fuller after a "small" meal. As to its effectiveness as an insulin regulator, I can't say. I was in Metformin and insulin at the same time and it is difficult to say what was doing what. My BGs were controlled to my doctors and my satisfaction.

I am on byetta and its been a great option for me. Have lost nearly 30 lbs and my levels are better than they have been in 4 years ;-) Its certainly better than any oral combos I've been on. That's also probably due to the fact that my pancreas is packing it in (who's isn't, eh?)
It also worked on the first dose for me - immediate results.
But...with that said, Byetta is not for everyone, some people experience unpleasant side-effects when they start. Side-effects usually go away, but its something to consider as you consider your options. I didn't have any side-effects though.

I started on Byetta June 13th, I am taking 10mcg twice a day, also Actos 15mg once a day and 1000mg metformin twice a day. I have not noticed it helping to lower my fbs, which is why she put me on it. I started injecting in my side/stomach, but had a lot of nausea, have switch to injecting in my thigh and the nausea is considerably less. I have not had any side effect with the actos.

Byetta probably won't help with fbs - because it has a half-life of approx. 2.4 hours. It has the most affect with BGL spikes after meals. Also...its usual for it to be prescribed @ 5mg for the first 30 days, then to move to 10mg. This minimizes side-effects, etc.

She told me to increase to 10mcg after a week if it didn't do anything for my fbs. I go back in a couple of weeks so I will talk to her

I have been on Byetta for about 4 months now. The side effects (nausea) went away for a while, then started coming back. I tolerate it for several reasons: I lost a a considerable amount of weight while using it, it keeps my bgl within the desired range, I don't have to worry about lows, and I eat my favorite desserts/snacks without spikes and going too high. I find that it offers me the most control of any meds I have taken in the past.
