Jeggeman is looking at coming to Cincinnati (well, 20 miles north) with his family on September 1st. It is government employee day for his job at Kings Island and I'd like to see who from here would like to tag along and have a good day riding amusement rides.

For more information on Kings Island please go to...
Kings Island | Official Home Page (http://www2.cedarfair.com/kingsisland/)

I am looking at it being a quick one or two day event down here depending on how long people want to stay or hang out. Admission to Kings Island is $35 if you have a coupon from Wendy's or if you buy the ticket online at least 3 days in advance. Basically, you don't have to make a commitment now, but I'd like at least a decent interest level from those in the tri-state area.

Parking I know is outrageous however, we can meet down the street somewhere and then have a few cars go inside to save on parking prices.

So, my Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana pals, who wants to go? Others are of course welcome, but not sure if the drive is worth it.

I'll have to check my work schedule when it gets closer to time, but I am interested if I can get there....I've got season passes, also, for all of us (me, my wife, and the 5....yes, 5...kids).

Yes the wife, 3 kids and myself will be there. It would be nice to meet some of you. Kevin and I have already had lunch once. We should pick a place and time for all to gather for a few. Maybe like for a late afternoon snack or something. We will be doing lunch with the my employer as our $30 tickets include an all u can eat lunch.

Cincinnati has an airport. Not 100% sure what part of town it is located, but I don't think it should be more than 30min away.

Kevin I am sure will be able to chime in on the drive time

Penny I will be bringing my 3 children 13, and 11yo son's and 7 almost 8yo daughter.

It's actually in Kentucky, Covington to be exact. It's airport code is CVG (for Covington) yet's it's called Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

From the airport to Kings Island should be about 30-40 minute drive time (just souther of the river). I will say though, CVG is one of (if not #1) the most expensive airports in the country. Tickets to/from there generally cost 50-100% more for som stupid reason.

Dayton is the airport to fly into if you can. It would then take about 45 minutes to get to Kings Island from there.

I was hoping there would be lots of kids......I don't do the rides and didn't want her to do them alone. Emily will ride with the 8 year old, she gets along great with younger kids. Hubby isn't sure he will go and he usually does it. He is reluctant to drop me off without someone to look out for me, but I told him I will be with a bunch of Diabetics, so I am pretty sure I will be safe.

Pencil me in. I just applied for a US airways credit card with all the bonus miles and stuff and they came back at me with an 18% APR!! F that. Hopefully they saved my info and offer something reasonable, I am guessing probably not though.

Guess they have to make it up those miles some how. :D

That's low. The national average is 18% according to a show I saw last night. They said the highest is somewhere around 28%. I can't even imagine 28% interest unless it's coming into my pocket. :T

No comment....

Ok...I'll say it...WHY THE HECK DO STORES SET STUFF OUT 2 MONTHS BEFORE THE HOLIDAY. LOL I wonder what idiots really buy that, of course, I'm the one that buys stuff 364 days before that holiday, aka, the day after when it's marked 50% off, lol.

Just got done ordering my tickets. Keven what exit is it off 71? I can't remember off the top of my head.

Exit 25 from the North - Kings Mills Rd
-Left off the exit, right onto Kings Island Dr

Exit 24 from the South - Western Row Rd
-Straight off the exit and it turns into Kings Island Dr

Who else is confirmed or wants to go? Just trying to get a head count. Also, what time would others be arriving so I know what time to plan on meeting and where (most likely inside the park at staggered arrival times.) $30 (online and gate) for ages 3 & under/under 48” tall and ages 62 & up.

Ticket prices are only $35 if bought online more than 3 days in advance. $38 if bought online less than 3 days in advance, and $45 if bought at the gate.

Also, if people arrive at set times then it's possible we can park at a business off of Western Row Rd and carpool over to save parking admission prices since I believe those are somewhere around $7-10.

Kevin, Have we decided on a time and place for meeting? Is the online discount good for senior tickets, too? We have a couple of members from Beavercreek, are they coming? Glashalful is one that comes to mind. I am really looking forward to meeting everyone, and the grandkid is still screaming with excitement since I told her we were going for sure. Sandi, I am expecting to finally meet you and your babies......and Jim's family, too. This is going to be a great meeting!

Penny....Ticket info is here...

Kings Island | Buy Discount Park Tickets Online (http://www3.cedarfair.com/kingsisland/shop/shopping_general_admission.cfm)

Yes, 2007 JUNIOR/SENIOR SINGLE DAY ADMISSION is $30. I am 95% sure that it's the same price online and at the gate for that group, however, since I haven't been there since Cedar Fair took over, I can't confirm if that includes the gate price or not.

I was thinking maybe 10 am just inside the park. They have that covered area just past where you hand your tickets in front of the lake that we can all meet at. I know Jim wants to do things with his coworkers some too and they have a group lunch planned so I think we'd meet Jim at like 1:00 or 2:00.

I'm going to start searching and PMing members over the weekend to get some confirmations and some contact info. So I hope by next week to have a final headcount of adults and children.

I just went this weekend, Penny, (my whole family came to visit) so won't be doing the park again this year. I told Kevin that I'd try to meet up with you all if you do a meal outside the park (dinner?). I know that's hard to plan (we didn't know what we were going to do when we went Saturday), but with the heat we pooped out pretty quick and were out by 6ish.

Thanks for thinking of me!

Elizabeth

I worry about "pooping out". I have to use my cane if I walk much, and take frequent rests at home. I am hoping Kevin and maybe Jim's kids will go on rides with the granddaughter, because I know I cannot. I wish you could be there Elizabeth! :)

Is there any trouble getting supplies past security? The last time I went, I had to go through twice because of my meter. Also can I take bottled water in with me....I get dehydrated easily, and do not want to pay $3 for a drink of water.

I have not had any problems with getting supplies past security. However I don't think they will let bottled water in. But I am not 100% sure.

Is your granddaughter over 48 inch's tall?

Emily is 11, but is about 4 inches taller than I am. I think she is 64 inches tall.

I pitched my soda in the can before security, but my dad took in bottled water without question. Guy snooped in my purse (grrrrr), and told me TWICE to hand him my "phone" (he was looking right at my pump), then figured it out (without my help -- I was feeling stubborn) and quit asking. If I were you, I'd try to take a bottle in, then fill it up at the water fountains by the bathrooms. If they won't let you, then buy ONE $3 water and fill IT up!!! My brother and hubby did it all day without problems, and said the water was good and cold.

Have fun Penny and everyone -- I'm sure I'll meet up with you all soon enough!

Jim, I think it is a real deal. I would like to pick up my tickets at the gate if I can, is that possible with this deal? I am also am wondering how far the walk to the picnic grouuunds is, or if they still have the shutle bus. I don't want to get sick trying to get there. How many people are going, Kevin, do you know yet? Emily can't wait, and I am looking forward to it.

As for the picnic area, it is near the waterpark from what I remember. It is in the park, you won't leave the park to go to the picnic area.

Right now the tally stands at 6 adults and 6 kids. I had 3 "parties" unsure and 2 definitely said no. I'm still waiting to hear back from Patti if her and her kids can make it. Either way it sounds like a great group and should be some fun.

Jim, when do you want to meet up? At the buffet?

Penny, Jim is right. THe Picnic area is off the walking path from the Nickelodeon to the waterpark. It's not that far of a walk. I'm just praying it cools off a tad by then.

To those attending....I'm still planning on 10 am for the arrival time. The park opens at 10 am that day and I figure that's best so we can stay out of the heat as much as possible. I love heat, but not sure how others take it.

To all else, you are all still welcome to come. Just send me a PM with how many adults and kids, and a contact number, also, your real name, and then just show up and I'll call you that morning if I don't see you inside the gate.

Penny

I just called King's Island, and you can order online through Jim's group and pick them up at the gate. Hubby is still trying to decide whether or not to go, so I am waiting a day or two. What will you do about keeping insulin cool? I plan to bring a small backpack, so I can bring test kit, insulin pens, and other medications. But other than bring a ice pack along, don't know what to do about the pens.

JediSkipdogg
08-23-2007, 03:03 PM
Penny, I can bring a cooler filled with ice packs and keep them in my car if you want. Since Jim and myself are pumpes, our insulin will be on us.

Penny, do you plan on paying to park? I was just wondering what your plans on were getting there and parking. Maybe meet somewhere out of the park and drive one car in or if you get a ride there but your husband doesn't go, I can pick you up to drive in and drop you off at the entrance...as the non-parker drop off is a country mile from the gate.

Kevin, that would mean you would need to run to the car everytime I needed some insulin. Maybe I can get cups of ice, here and there, to keep it cool. Also maybe it will not be so hot by then.
I think my husband will drop us, I don't think he will be coming. He worries, but really doesn't want to. They used to have shuttle buses to take from the parking lot to the gate. Did they stop doing that? I also will need to bring my cane, I forgot to ask if there are regulations about that. If there are no shuttles, I would appreciate the ride to the gate. Thanks.

Ya if you are going to do the picnic thing we can meet up there. I am sure I will see you some place in the park before then. I would not wait to much longer, I am not sure how much longer they will let you buy tickets via that deal. Also I scoped out the local weather, and as of yesterday it is gonna be in the upper 60's in the late am and mid 70 by late afternoon. Keven keep us up dated on the forcast next week.

I haven't yet, but I probably will. I'll have to check it out tomorrow and hope it's still there. I had someone offer me a coupon for $15 off (making admission $30) but if I can pay $32 and get a meal with it, that's a deal.

Penny
08-24-2007, 09:04 PM
I have not, only because I cannot figure out how to tell them I will pick up my tickets at the gate. I am afraid they wouldn't get here if they mailed them to me. Kevin will you look and see if I missed something, I will order in the morning. Also,Since Pat is dropping us off, if you (or anyone else) parked your car someplace where you didn't have to pay, we could pick you up and drive you to the gate. Oops, I forgot to call about the shuttle...so I better do that first. Also, I don't think I can stay much later than say 6 pm (Just don't know if I can be there that long without getting sick), so getting back to the cars would be a problem. But it is something for everyone to think about. If there is no shuttle, Kevin, I would certainly share the parking cost with you, if you drive us to the gate. Jim, I would love to eat with you and your family, so hope I can still get the tickets.

Penny, I think those tickets you print off. I've never done it online, but last year (or the year before) I went to Winterfest and someone else bought my ticket and she had computer printed tickets. Each one had a different code so they couldn't be used twice. So they either let you print them after you order them or they email them to you, not sure, I'll find out later today.

Also, don't worry about leaving early. I think patti is confirmed going now and she and her fam need to leave by 3, which I said was not a problem.

Penny
08-25-2007, 06:28 AM
Kevin I went through the process to the last step of ordering the tickets through Jim's site. They only give 2 options, express mail at $18.95 extra or regular mail at 3.95. I don't want to pay an extra $19 and I am afraid the tickets will not get here in time by regular mail. There was no option for printing or hold at gate. I called a few days ago, and the girl who answered said that we could have them held at the gate, but did not say how. I will try to call again this morning. I did not want to disappoint the granddaughter by leaving too early, this is only her 2nd trip to the park. So thought 6 might be a good time for her to do most of the rides, etc. Kevin I will pm my home phone # to you, it will make it easier for you to reach me.

Penny

Just ordered my tickets and it was pretty easy. I called this #---513-754-5700, and selected option 4. I ordered the tickets, gave them my info, and the code. They gave me a number and I can pick my tickets the day of the event. No mailing fees. :D I forgot to ask about the shuttle, so if someone else gets the chance.

When you pick up your tickets make sure you get 2 tickets per person. One to get into the park, and the other to get into the picnic.

Thanks Jim, I would not have thought of that. I did get a receipt online that I printed out, and that was a relief. I had visions of getting there and being told they didn't know what I was talking about. :)

Last few years, they have also given away door prizes. They gave away stuff with the city seal on it, along with cash door prizes. I know they plan on having $500.00 in door prizes this year. Each person with a ticket gets entered. My 5 year old daughter won $50.00 two years ago. I think that year we came out with enough money in door prizes to cover the cost of the tickets. So that year it was a free trip. It is fun, I am sure your grandaughter will have fun as well.

I have some coupons for anyone who did not get tickets. They are for $34.95 for adults or 29.95 for senior/junior (I think jr. is for anyone under 48 inches, senior for 61 or older). Any you need them, send me a pm, and you can meet us before 10, where I am meeting Kevin, in the drop off area. Kevin I am hoping to be there by 9:45, and thanks again for the offer of a ride into the park.
