Wow. I sure learned a lesson over the last week. My new kitten, cute as he is, is into everything. He also is teething.

I was blissfully unaware that he had found a tiny exposed bit of my tubing and chewed on it a bit. Not good. Not only did he leave holes and interrupt my insulin flow, but he injected his little kitty germs right into my tummy.

Result: Sky high sugar and cellulitis.

Of course, it was the night we went to the Symphony Pops concert on the lawn, had a picnic and since it was dark, I counted my units by pushes of the button rather than a visual. Since none of it got there and we got home very late, I went to bed without testing. What a nasty surprise the next morning.

It has taken nearly a week to get a handle on the cellulitis at the infusion site. Nuts!

Soooo. Just a word to the wise. Keep your tubing WAAAAY out of sight from curious pets :o Mich

My little darling did that to when I first got her. Let's just say she learned quickly not to do it ever again.

Mich-
Oh my gosh! You poor thing! I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick, but glad that you're doing better now.
My cats have chewed through my tubing before, but I've never gotten an infection from it (perhaps b/c they chewed the whole way through). I think this is one of those lessons that all pumpers (and cats of pumpers) learn at one time or another. Needless to say, my pump stays under the covers and the cats get a gentle thumping anytime they so much as look at the tubing.

I also have 2 curious cats in my house. When I disconnect to shower or when I'm going to do a site change, I have to make sure the little buggers aren't around. LOL

Well, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one! Eddie thinks everything is a plaything but he's learning...Becky, your "thumping" technique is working :T

His latest trick is to carry a ball of wadded up paper around with him.

That's why I have been saying cats are the Devil! Did anyone else hear about the lady that died in her house and her cat's ate her. Wicked little creatures they are. I'll never own a devil cat, NEVER!

*grins* I don't advocate beating an animal, but a gentle swat or tap on the nose seems to get the message across.

Will Eddie retrieve the paper if you toss it? I've known a few who would. :)

Becky, Eddie will bring the paperball back but only if he wants. We are working on it so he will do it when WE want him to. We also plan to train him to a leash. Many Manx cats think they are dogs and will trot along beside you when you go for a walk. They also growl at perceived threats and love to go camping with their people(that's why the leash.)

I keep a loosly rolled newspaper page that makes lots of noise. I just have to pick it up to make my point these days. Of course when he is in the mood, he trains me to pick it up by doing something he knows he shouldn't over and over ;) He gives himself away when he is planning it because his stumpy little tail goes like a helicopter rotor.

I have now sliced the pocket of all of my new shorts so that my tubing is completely inside--nothing exposed to little milk teeth. Here he is wearing one of my sandals. Mich

Our male, Auric, will come when called like a dog. He's such a jerk, but he makes me laugh :D

Don't know if you can do this, but put some soap on the tubing. He will not like the taste!

Looks just like my Manx cat. I never knew that about the leash. Unfortunately, I got mine when he was 5 years old so he's way past any training. If I put a leash on him he's fine, but the second he goes outside he dies. He literally just lays on the ground and doesn't move but ocassionaly looking around.

hehehehe........ I am sorry about the infection, but he is so cute!!! My dog, when he was a puppy would chew on the tubing while I was sitting on the couch. I thought he was just doing the normal puppy licking while he was sitting next to me. Actually, he was severing my pancreas! LOL.

No infection......that really is too bad. But it is funny. I just tucked and paid more attention the next time. Little buggers!
