View Full Version : Doc visit went well - but it's nose to the grindstone time.
My A1c went up a little, to 5.9 from a previous 5.6 but I guess I'm still pleased to see that "non diabetic" range on the lab sheet.
My lipids were all good and I'm now off the Lipitor completely!
We're going to drop my Metformin dose from 2x500 daily to 1x500 daily and see how it goes. So I have to be vigilant about losing more weight, exercising a bit more and if I do well I may come off the Metformin in October.
I can be pretty stubborn about goal achievement so wish me luck!

Hi Mike: Glad your doctor visit went well. Good job on staying in the non-diabetic A1C level..I know what a challenge that is.
Please keep us posted as to what happens on the lower dose of metformin. That seems to be all our goals, getting off the meds. I've considered lowering my metformin as well, doc said I could, but also said studies have shown that long-term metformin reduces progression of T2 in those with significant insulin resistance...so, i'm leery. I would assume since it takes 3 weeks to build to optimal level, it would take 3 weeks for your body to recognize the lower dose as well. I've very interested in how things go for you....you can be my guinea pig;) .
Keep up the good work! You've worked hard and done well.
I'd be happy to be your guinea pig, I think. :D
I definitely will keep posting here with progress. It is a little scary and if my control starts going to rubbish I'm to call the doc right away and I imagine they'll put me back to 2x daily.
The adventure begins!

Mike, Congratulations on your good A1C & lipids !! :top:
I agree with what Linda said.
Metformin helps, even non-diabetics.
Your dosage is low compared to mine. be vigilant & test even more often. especially after you get off of it.
What's your A1C goal?
but for some of us, like me, I need that "Metfartin' ".
Good luck on your trial/experiment.
For me & some others here on DF, meds are a necessary evil.
remember Met is one of the meds with fewer side effects.
Thanks Dan. I will not hesitate to go back to original dose if needed, I really don't have a problem with taking it but if I can keep my A1c under 6.0 I'm happy with that.

Mike, was your evening meal something you've had before with successful results, or something new that may have had the same results, even with your previous amounts of metformin?
Good to hear you had a good fasting though...seems I always pay the next morning as well when I have a high evening.

Congradulations Mike! Awesome!:congrats:
Thanks to ladytaz, didn't mean to forget you, and to desperado. I don't think I missed anyone but if I did, Thank YOU!
Linda, I had an Italian beef, probably about 40 to 50g carbs for the bun, which usually isn't a problem.
Tonight is was wheat spaghetti and some veggies and my 2 hr PP was 100 even!
Maybe I just had a funky test strip?
