... anyone ever experience this? I am Type 2 atypical, 1000 mg. Metformin twice a day ... had lunch today, BG normal (108 before eating) ... lunch was a little heavy on the carb side, but this hasn't been a problem in the past ... lately, I haven't been feeling well and when I check my BG it's fine ... but I feel lousy ... I don't know, maybe I'm coming down with something? This just doesn't seem right. Any suggestions?
Could be all sorts of things! Of course, not everything is related to diabetes. It's often the first thing we think of, but yup you could just be getting a virus or not sleeping well, or lacking in vegetables or not drinking enough or any one of about a trillion other options :D
A few things to think of though:
How bad are your peaks when you eat? It could be tiring you out a little if you're eating enough carb to peak too high, then your body is putting too much energy into getting you down again.
Does it happen after a certain food, or a certain type of meal?
How long have you been on the Metformin? Could it be making you feel a little ill? Do you have it with or after meals? Any other medications?

Thanks, Emm ... you gave me a lot to think about ... some things stood out more than others ... like the fact the I don't like vegetables so naturally I don't get enough ... but I didn't realize it could effect me like this ... okay ... I'll have veggies with my dinner tonight .. also I have had a couple of high readings this week ... 144 one day and 155 another ... the 155 is really high for me ... BTW, I've been on Metformin since the end of January when I was diagnosed (hospitalized for 4 days, BG at 914) ... because I have been feeling so poor lately ... I have been afraid that my BG might spike and I would find myself back in the hospital ... it's been a rough week and when I think about it my food has been pretty bad ... way too many carbs ... not enough veggies ... I am still stressed but better to be stressed and feeling better than to be stressed and feeling lousy, right? Thanks for the food for thought ... lol

Yeah, I probably do need a smack ... but ... in my defense ... I was only diagnosed six months ago ... I'm still adjusting ... food has always been my drug of choice and I'm having withdrawal symptoms ... but ... since I feel so yucky ... I think I'll get it together ...

Also...how long after you eat do you check your levels?
Sometime try 1hr then 1.5 then 2hrs. I did this for about 4 days and I found out that I was hitting my highs in about 1-1.5 hours after eating and the numbers I was getting at 2hrs were really on the way back down.

I've found when I give in and have something higher in carbs than I usually eat, I just don't feel well. Not sure if it is from the metformin or just my body not being used to many carbs. If I have a higher carb meal, about a hr later, I will feel a little nauseous and have a clammy feeling. This usually passes in 15-20 minutes, but its often enough to make me eat what I need to instead of what I want to. Just something i've observed, may have nothing to do with what you're experiencing.

Actually Princesslinda, that about hits the nail on the head ... a meal with too many carbs = clammy and yucky feeling ... passes in about 20-30 mins.
I give up ... I really ama DIABETIC!

I started walking everyday...In 2 months, I have increased it to 4 miles a day. You would be surprised at how good you feel, after walking or any exercise. But i still get a high reading occasionally (150-160) for NO apparent reason? its just the stupid disease we deal with. let us know how you are often, and maybe it will help others??
