View Full Version : Light Dinner + 8-9 Iu's of Lantus = Low FBG

I have discovered over the last few weeks that if I eat a light dinner (small salad, small portion of meat, almost anything in small portions), that my waking/fasting bg's are consistently in the 70-80 range, regardless of whather I decided to knock a couple of drinks back or not.

My question is this:
I was diagnosed in early 2005, and attempted to control through modified diet and exercise. By Jan 2007, my fbg's were consistently in the 135-145 range, at which time we decided to give lantus a try (to supplement the minimal insulin that my pancreas had been producing). I started the Lantus in Feb 2007, and my first A1c (after 60 days) was down to a 6.5. I now have waking bg's of anywhere from 70-90, depending on how good or bad my choices were the night before. My postprandial readings are always under 140, and can be as low as 100, depending on content of my meals.

My body is not insulin resistant, as it responds to the small amount of lantus, and whatever I produce independently...should I try to reduce the amount of lantus so that I am getting the same waking #'s from the minimal amount possible? I'll tell you what, in a sick and twisted way, I am happy when I wake up feeling a bit sluggish, as I know that my bg's are going to be in the 70-80 range. When I wake up feeling energetic and sharp, I know that my bg's are higher, usually around 90.

I am going in for my next A1c, to see what a true 90-day reading will look like. As a review, I am an extremely healthy 35 year old male, with high HDL and low LDL/VLDL, and am a picture of health, except for the low insulin production. Exercise 7 days a week, both weights and cardio, and generally maintain a very healthy diet, except for a cocktail or two. Good to talk to you all again.
