Hello,

I have been enjoying reading the posts here in preparation to acquiring a pump. I started using my pump this week and I think I'm going to like it. Today, I visited a grocery store where I shop often and when I entered the store and left the store the alarm went off that alerts people that you may be taking merchandise without paying for it (a.k.a. stealing). Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, I did. Then I realized that I had a box from some makeup I purchased in my purse and it had not been deactiveated.. hahahaha

NO!!! I didn't steal it. :T

Seriously, my pump does not set off store alarms.

No, my pump has not set off any alarms which I thought for sure when I first got it that it would have. I know cell phones can set them off. Did you have one on you??

Meh, they forget to deactivate something you bought that had an alarm on it.

The only place my pump has EVER set off an alarm was the metal detectors at Department of Justice and the airport in Reno, NV.

OMG that's so funny ~ when I first got my pump, I thought the same thing because store alarms kept going off (VERY EMBARRASING!) It turned out that my new purse had a thing stuck inside one of the inside zippered pockets and THAT's what was making the alarms go off. Never set off a store alarm since!:)

Never had my pump set off a store alarm, only a metal detector in Dubai..

I work in a store that has these shoplifting alarms, and quite often people will walk in and beep - many shops use the same systems, and if something is not deactivated, the person will beep every time they come in. I have found tags in peoples handbags, in the tags in clothing, all over the place.

I agree with tanya, duck and notme, most likely you have something else on you that is causing the alarm to go off. If you really think it is the pump, try just waving the pump in front of the security sensors to see if it goes off. More likely it is something in your purse. If you get a nice person in the store they can probably help you find out what is causing it, and then deactivate it so you wont have any more problems.
Good luck! I can imagine it is a bit embarrasing!

Same thing happened to me. I thought my pump was setting off alarms but it I had two new pair of pants from Old Navy with tags sewn in them that weren't deactivated. I work in retail. You'd be amazed at the odd products and places stores put those tags. Inside the spine of books. makeup packages. inner flaps of boxes. places you'd never expect. Sad commentary on our culture imo.

It's not always the tags... Several years ago, I went into a software store that I frequently visited over my lunch break and set off the alarm on my way in. I went there frequently and had never set it off before, so we started trying to figure out the cause. We determined that, if I took my jacket off and passed it through the gate, then walked through myself, neither I nor my jacket set it off, but if I walked through wearing my jacket, it triggered the alarm. That's about as far as we got before giving up and, again, I wore that same jacket there many times before and many times since, but never set it off except that one day, so a still-active tag seems extremely unlikely.

I have used Disetronic and Animas pumps for twelve years, and have been in thousands of stores using security devices, airports, etc, and have never set off an alarm. You didn't say which pump you are using, so there may be others which do have that problem?

What you are talking about is APPLES to ORANGES. Stores use RF (Radio Frequency) tags that are detected by the antenna as you pass through them on the way in or out of a store.

The airport uses a metal detector and not RF. Check your clothing or atricles for the RF tag that was not removed or deactivated.:D

When I buy strips at one particular pharmacy, they always set off the alarm. Never the pump.

I was JUST in Home Depot on Saturday and the alarm went off as we were leaving. I never gave my pump a thought, but we kept on going, kinda looking around, and the clerk that had rung up our sale said it was my pump! While I've never had the problem myself, he obviously had! (Either that, or he's got a lot of shoplifting pumpers going through his doors!!)

Yes, the only device that i can think of is the Continueus Glucose Monitor that has a transmitter in it. So how many of you has one?? ;)
