As a Type 2 diabetic, I have been told that I have to loose weight and so I cut my calories drastically and achieved my goal. Now, on the other hand I have been told that I have to reduce fat and gain quality muscles. So, does it mean that now again I have to eat more calories (with high protein) to build muscles? If yes, then again I will gain weight and back to where I was before loosing weight.

The only difference with this I can see is the objective behind the new weight gain should be the quality muscles. Can anyone please let me know whether my interpretation is correct and offer any piece of advise to gain quality muscles apart from strength training (which I am already doing) like including protein shake, carnitine supplements etc....

Thanks,
Sam

Sam, once you start exercising, you will be burning calories. You may eat more, but you will not gain fat weight. You may put on muscle weight, but it will not be a large weight gain. Your metabolism will change and your insulin needs may also change.

Do the exercise. Muscle helps your metabolism and helps you burn fat. Your heart will thank you, your muscles will thank you and you will find you feel generally better.

Protein will help you build muscle, but you will also have to have carbohydrates for energy. I don't know anything about supplements as I don't use them.

Good luck, sounds like you are doing all the right things.

Focus on inches, not weight.

You have the solution in your original statement. You have to loose fat and gain muscle. Muscle is denser than fat so you could loose 5 lbs of fat, gain 5lbs of muscle and weigh the same, just be a little thinner.
Changing you diet to quality carbs with a little higher protein percentage should be all it takes beside all that exercise.
