Hi People,

I just got back from my endo, and she wants me to change my meds a little because my HBA1C jumped to 9 from 6.5 and I have NOT changed my basic eating habits nor have I gained any weight.

I was taking before each meal:

Novonorm 2 mgs
Glucophage

She now wants to add 1 avandia 4 mgs and change my evening meal novonorm to 1 gluben.

She has warned me that the avandia could cause some weight gain.

Could those of you with either knowledge and/or experience please give me the "lowdown" with regard to avandia.

Thanks,

Chaim

I used to take Avandia - nasty stuff IMO - I had a number of issues with it, including severe D-fib. The FDA just gave it (and Actos) a black-box warning.

avandia blackbox - Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=avandia+blackbox&btnG=Google+Search)

Diabetes - Avandia and Actos Both Get Black Box Warnings (http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/17/10213/actos-black-box/)

You might want to do a google search on it and read all of the latest - then make up your own mind. Don't just accept whatever a Dr. gives you ;-)
