hi anyone who has missed me.i went my holidays and it was lovely.crete is a beutiful place.i didnt feel deprived at all and stuck to salad and meat or fish.and i had two cola lights and rum every night.i put on two kilos in a week..due to the cooked breakfast...lol..but hey im not worried i have lost most of the weight since i came home.i went swimming in the sea every day....any one who like details like me can have a look a where we stayed it was iberostar creta marine on the iberostar website in Greece....I'm back and i have some questions about metformin i have been looking it up and i cant find out how it works.....how does he drug work...what does it do.....why does it work....i have had a couple of days now where my system is all to pot...i have terrible wind,(I'm jet propelled)and i have had diarrhoea.my system is all to pot.the day after we traveled home i had a hiccup and because id been sitting on planes and fairly immobile and not swimming and things my blood sugar was up at 17. something...but since then Ive managed to be under 8.0 which is a lot better...anyway any information about metformin would be great in some kind of idiot proof language..thankyou ..love noogsy

Hi Noogsy, glad you had a great vacation...I'm needing one myself about now.
Regarding your metformin..simply put, metformin helps your body better use the insulin you are making. Less simply put:
"Metformin works by reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver and increasing the uptake of glucose by the cells of the body. This has the overall benefit of reducing blood glucose levels by 3-4 mmol/l. It does not increase how much insulin is made by the pancreas.
Metformin is also thought to help by lowering component of blood fats, that are often high in people with type 2 diabetes.
Metformin also decreases the appetite and helps you lose a few pounds in weight."

hi noogsy glad you had a good holiday stay in scotland myself prestwick been on metformin for 3 years now 6x500mg a day so i know what you mean about the toilet eye of the needle ring a bell are you always tired all the time life is a constant push i have epilisy but it is nothing compaired to this i have tried taking vitamin b12 princesslinda told me to try i feel a little better already only been on them 2 weeks so they should get better it certainly takes over your life
