I am currently involved in a relationship with a woman who has diabetes. Because it is an internet relationship, I kind of feel like I can't do a whole lot to help her out. She has been having some problems recently; feeling confused, not sure what she's doing or where she's going. She is afraid to leave her apartment alone because she doesn't know what she might do. I know her sugar has been real low a few times recently, causing her to shake real bad. I know that in the past month or couple of months she has switched medications. She was using a byetta pen, but is now taking insulin. Her prescription coverage has run out for the year, so she cannot afford the byetta any longer. Her psychologist thought that something involved with her medications is causing the problem. I think its the insulin. So I am here to see if I can educate myself and get some help and suggestions.

Its a real hard time for both of us. I have been busy with school and her mother is going through chemo for cancer.

So if anyone can help me out and/or point me to the right place on the forum, I will greatly appreciate it.

Getting low's are scarey really they are, especially when one doesn't know what they are going to do to them.....I was scared to leave the house at one point sometimes, but I think telling her, as long as she has always got them up there is no need to not leave the house. Tell her to test when she is going to leave and if need be pull over....and test if she has too just to be safe, keep something with her, I was keeping pancake syrup with me, but I have not done it in a month, now I just keep my goodies, cause I know that my low's are just treatable......it is the paranoia that is hard to get over, she will.....

High blood sugar levels can block oxygen from reaching the brain, resulting in such confusion. Low sugar levels can lead to going into a coma and have to be treated as an emergency.

Now that she's on insulin, she should stop the byetta and switch to symlin. It's pretty much the same stuff as byetta but is designed to be used with insulin. Byetta / symlin both have profound effects on the body, slowing digestion and in many cases leading to nausea and vomiting.
