Well Shy I get the pump on Friday and I picked the Animas, I have two reps that live very close to me and they are the ones that will be training me on them. Also Shy if you can back up to the thread ( Thinking about it) all of that info would be great for a newbee! One of the replies gave me some outstanding web sites that kept me very busy and gave me some great questions to ask all of the reps that tried to sell me a pump. And Katjic I will let you know good or bad. Once again I don't know how to thank all of you enough.

just out of curiosity, which Animas model (IR-1000 or 1200)/color did you choose?

5xxxxx

I picked the IR-1200 and just plain old black. But they did tell me that they are or have many other colors to get in the furture.

Dear 5xxxxx,

Congrats on choosing the Animas. Jack got his Animas IR-1200 about 6 weeks ago and what a life change it has caused. If only he could have done it years ago.

Jack chose the blue one and it is really nice looking.....however, as it turns out, when you put it in the black holder to hang on your belt or waistband it almost totally covers up the blue....lol!!!

We have had an amazingly wonderful experience with the Animas Corp. If you have any questions, fire away!

Congrats5XXXXX. I have been considering a pump and that's the one I'm thinking about getting. I have a friend who just got one a few weeks ago and his endo told him he was doing great.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back with everyone I was out of town for work. But I cant wait to get started on this pump. The way that I fly around the U.S. for work I think it will be great.

Just had to go through metal detectors for the first time since getting my pump recently. Unfortunately my MM712 pump likes to set off metal detectors :( no biggie though. It seems that even the (nice word for stupidest) "not so smart" people that work the detectors know what a pump is :) . It's a lot better than trying to explain why you have syringes :) .

Good Luck!!

Went through the airport metal detectors in Anchorage 2 weeks ago and and not a peep from them. Even thry looked strangely at me and said "wow"
Everyone was suprised it didn't go off

Pepsilvr,

That is interesting. I have gone though many airport metal detectors with both my 508 and now my Cozmo and have never set it off. I don't think i ever went through one with my 511 though. I usually have it on my belt under my t-shirt or sweater or in my pocket an nobody has ever asked me any questions. Ok, maybe once, when my belt buckle set the detector off and i lifted my t-shirt and the security guy saw the pump. He asked if i could take off my cell phone and i told him it was an insulin pump and no, i could not take it off. He said ok and that was it.

The funny thing is that i ALWAYS used to set off the detector before i got a pump and now i almost never do.

Pep been there with the explaining of the syringe thing. When this all started after 911 I would of tought they would get some taining on this but oh no it really got bad! And if you think the airport is bad I have to go to court from time to time for this place I call work I cant wait to tell them what a pump is. The dumb look they give you. Most of the time I want to say wake up people this is 2004.

The security guy said that pumps don't usually set off the detectors but when he used the wand by it, the wand beeped. He also said that mine was a newer model that he had not had experience with. I guess maybe it depends on how sensitive the detector is.

I'll keep that in mind. Have you had any problems when they do a visual check? I dont think they know what they are looking at. Also I know this is off topic but thanks the heads up on the 7 11
sluppie think COOL real COOL.

Actually I haven't had a problem with the visual check. I was asked to remove it once but said that it was medical and I couldn't. There wasn't a problem.

Good luck and keep us updated on how your new pump goes.

Let me know what you think of it. I am waiting for mine to arrive. I went with the IR1200. Because of all the upgrading, mine is to be here around Aug 2. I am hoping for sooner.

I am already pumping so my training will not be as intense.

Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you.

I have never had a detector at an airport beep with mine. I have travel right after 911 and also recenly in Europe and it was never a problem. When they did check the bag then i had to say it was pump supplies....but i had a note (has to be on prescription pad from Dr.) stating that i was diabetic, on a pump and needed to keep all supplies etc... with me. They looked at it and gave up looking in the bag.
it is the dumb ones that have problems.

soremom I will let you know I cant wait and I hope the 1200 does everthing they said it does. Belinda you are right I also had to fly after 911 in fact I was the only one on the plane. But I just flew down to Tampa and came back, Now this is here the problem comes in I dont know how to say dumb or was it dumber that this person could not even read. They took me to a room and called my Doctor. I told them what evey thing was showed them, Then after sitting in the room for 35mins they said sorry this should of never happened not to say I had to run for my plane. This makes me real mad. It is 2004 and I have to deal with Dumb and Dumber.

Oh there is where I would be talking to head of security and ripping them a new A@#$ hole. Can't stand it when I call ahead and have done all my part about what they would like to see and they are idiots. Still think you should contact the airport and talk to an administrator even though it has been a while since it happened

Well Belinda this last one just happened June 30 04 and I did make the call, They said they where sorry and try to instruct they better. The thing I did do all the time I was sitting there was keep my cool try to be nice, But it was unreal how they where acting you would of thought they had something big here. They almost had to buy me another ticket or get me on another plane.Cost priceless Dumb and Dumb gone I hope.

oh you were too nice. I would have pitched a fit about how they were causing me stress and raising my blood sugar level...anything to make them aware of the disease. Glad it was you and not me. I on the other hand was in europe this summer and the lady in France ask me was it ok that I went through the security frame or was it better for me(my pump) if they used the wand...I was impressed that they knew and they asked.

5xxxxx

Sounds like they have it together in France, But here no way hire the person that can not even read unreal. So which part of Tennessee are you from.

I have never had a problem with going through security wearing my pump. The last time I went, I told the security gurard first I was wearing an insulin pump and then walked through. The alarm didn't even go off, so everything went ok. I guess it also depends how sensitive the alarms are to metal...I think they have different settings.
