toenails

Hello everyone I hope im not getting on anyone's nerves for asking so much but I have really learned allot from this forum and all of you.

Another question is regards to cutting toenails. When I was dxd 14 years ago they told me to never cut them but to go to the doctor to get them cut. Now they say its ok to cut them, but cut them straight across. What is the correct way to cut a diabetic toenails and what to do if you were to get an ingrown toenail?

I have always been told it's OK to cut them yourself but not too short and into the shape of the toe rather than straight accross. What has anyone else been told about this matter? If you have an ingrown toenail get to a choropodist straight away before it goes septic!!!

Hmm, I was never told anything, but I guess it’s better to cut them straight accros to avoid ingrown toenails…

I was told to leave them a little longer and to cut them straight across.

Keep them straight across, and if you do get an ingrown one, see the doc asap so it doesn't get worse and infected.

I've never been told anything either but I do always hear that they should be cut straight across.

I met a lady with both legs amputated so she's in a wheelchair now for the rest of her life. She is adamant about getting any red spot or sore or ingrown toenail infection checked immediately.
She waited and the day that she waited cost her a leg. I believe
gangrene set in quickly and there wasn't much else they could do
with the poor circulation.

I believe that cutting your toenails straight across and leaving them slightly longer is following the curvature of your toe which was previously said.

Massage is very beneficial as well as applying or massaging in cream fairly often. It makes such a big difference on the blood flow to your feet.

I have had ingrown toenails. It always happens on my left big toe! LOL. Anywho the foot doc has said (as said above) to keep them a bit longer and trim straight across! I had never paid much attention to the way I was trimming my toenails until then!

I have to admit that's it is very nice to have the Dr. do it. He does mine when I go in to have calluses removed from sides of my feet. But mostly I do it myself, being very careful ( as if).

I cut mine straight across, but then I never have trouble with in-grown toenails.
