With all that fat in there the 1 and 2 hour might be oK but check at about 6 hours to be sure also.
Sometimes you just have to indulge!

That fat content delays the carbs. I will usually square wave with a higher fat content meal. There are no set rules I just do my best and try to judge the fat content vs the carb content. Sometimes it works other times I'll find 4 to 6 hours later I'm running a little high. Just correct for it.

I usually do a dual wave for high fat meals. I take 1/2 up front and then for the second 1/2 I spread it out over 2.5 hours.

I usually Eat a crispy chicken sandwich (and medium fries too with lots of ketchup) at BK almost twice a week and I take 10 units humolog and 2 hrs after the mean the BG will be in 150's....

I like BK :)

150? That's nothing. Try 350 at Whataburger (2 burgers, 2 large fries and a large shake). I think that would be my record. Usually, it's 150-200 for dinner though.

Next time you'll have to adjust your I:C ratio because you probably just gained 3-4 pounds!

This post bit me in the rear..... I jumped off the bandwagon for lunch today, I went to BK and consumed 120 carbs (triple whopper and king sized fries) :D mmmmmm, it was so good....... Bolused 25 units all up front about 20 minutes before I ate, and my BG peaked 1.25 hours later at 120, and now 3 hours later, I am back to target at 85. Was it worth it mentally? Yes. Physically? NO. I feel horrible, lethargic, and tired. I see now why I gave BK/McD's up entirely.

i ate chinese meal for dinner last night, chicken szechuan and boiled rice, i bolused for 100g carbs = 20 units novorapid.
i actually turned down an individual apple and blackcurrant pie because it was 37 g carbs =another 7unit bolus. i just didnt want to have to correct that much at bedtime for such a high carb intake.

does anyone else have a different I:C ratio for a higher carb intake? my dinner is higher anyway, but i seem to always have to correct even if i calculated my carbs properly (this seems to happen for the 100g meals)

Hey Brian,

Careful what you wish for.......

I would love to be able to control diabetes (or at least stand a chance of trying) with diet and exercise or medication. I would love not to have lows that hit the 20's.

I understand wishing you could eat normally, but the truth is, we (type ones) also have to eat properly most of the time. Yes, there are the cheating days, but you get caught many times high and correct for an entire day trying to fix it. Then you ping pong around from high to low.

Hang tough buddy. The grass is always greener.

Yea, for over 50 carbs I use 1:5, and for less I use 1:4. Morning hours, even though I do not eat, is 1:3.

so if i read this right you actually take LESS insulin per carb when you eat more?

My I:C ratio is fixed. It does not change based on quantity of food intake or time of day. But, I do bolus for both carbs and protein (http://www.insulin-pumpers.org/howto/pfandbs.html)...

Hi I'm type 2 on Avandamet once a day. When we were on a weekend out of town about a month after my diagnosis, we stopped at a Burger King, and I had the Hamburger (with all the veggies on it) with a side salad and diet soda. It was the first time away since I was diagnosed, and I hadn't had anything that GOOD in a while. I checked my BG throughout the trip... no problems at all. I stuck to low carbs for dinners when we went to the nicer restaurants, but ate the burger lunches without the fries the rest of the trip. I still have a burger once in a while when I'm craving it... if you pass up the fries, type 2's can enjoy them too! :D
