Actually if anything I'd imagine that the US will be promoting stem cell research in the future. After all, Reagan (who has a disproportionately huge influence on US policy) had Alzheimer's, and stem cell research promises a cure for that, among other conditions.

I have to agree with Deus. Here in the US more research money will be spent on stem cell research. Of course, they can't cure every disease. Who will the pharmacutical companies have left to screw?

I wish I could find my article now, but can't, Pres. Bush put a stop on some stem cell research. It was with embryo's that couples had frozen. Researchers wanted to use them for stem cell research and Bush said no. They could use what they had now, but no new infant stem cells.

The frozen ones that they wanted to use were ones that the couples were going to discard anyway. He felt that if he said yes, people would be having abortions so researchers could get stem cells.

Like I said I don't have the article with me and a maybe off with a few details but right now that is how it stands in here in the US

I could say more but then I will be on my soapbox and will never get off, so I won't tortue you with that.

His Royal Highness George II already did. The little weasel chopped it down to less than 20 strands of stem cells with which researchers in the U.S. can work. Which means that most of the research will be done by companies outside the U.S.

Fortunately research here and abroad into gene therapy looks promising, but has had some set backs.

Thanks rzr, I knew I had seen that. Very ticked off when I read that, consider how many diseases stem cell research could cure. My father in law just died of complications from Parkinson's disease. Makes you wonder if he would have approved testing if that could have possibily saved his life. I know it does not good questioning it, but it makes me wonder.

I also wish when I had my son I would have known more about stem cell research. I would have collected his blood from the umblical cord. Oh well, can't cry over spilt milk.
