There is a device supposedly out there called the PelikanSun...

I've been unable to find much on the device and even what country it is in. Supposedly the device senses what depth to prick the finger at and it has a disk of lancets. Also as far as I can tell, it doesn't take test strips, but just the disks of lances which puzzles me totally. If anyone can find anymore on it, I'd love to see it.

The Pelikan Sun is just a lancing device that you use with whatever other meter you choose to.

That would explain why I found nothing on it. And darn, I thought I found something cool. Way to go, ruin my excitement. LOL

Now that would be a breakthrough. The closest is the CGM devices where you wear the sensors for several days at a time and get a reading every 5 minutes or so. But you still need to fingerstick for calibration.
It would be great if we didn't need test strips, I'm not sure how it would work though... and I doubt the drug companies are interested in finding out, b/c it would be a huge financial loss for them if we stopped using strips.

I still want one that is a blood-sugar-checking-mp3-playing-cell-phone.

It seems like over 20 or more years ago I saw a device that had a reusable strip. Seems like the strip would last for 30 days although I don't know how many tests you could get out of it. I believe it was in the early to mid 80's when I saw the device but I never bought one. I wanted to but was trying to save up enough for a glucowatch at the time.
