Ok I came on here Saturday and was wondering what to do for Jacob's birthday cake, I was going to do a dual wave, but ummm well, my Mom was going to be late so i knew that I wasn't going to wait two hours with this dual wave running thru me to eat the desert.........Thanks MOM....LOL....

So anyway, I ate my lunch, I ended up eating a half of serving of potato chips, which by the way, if you really want them, eat ruffles......it only has potato's sunflower oil and salt........three ingredients talk about not filled with loads of ****...

Anywho, I was only 86 like 2 hrs later when I ate the cake and icecream, I can tell I was on my way down, cause like I figured I only had about 18 or so grams a fat not enough to make me low then rise, I know me......so I only took a half a cup of icecream, for the impending low, that I knew was coming since I was getting that feeling, and then got this humongous piece of cake, because i tasted it and the icing, and OMG it was so **** good, everyone my hubby my mom, the kids were looking at me like I was some crazed lunatic that has never ate anything before in her life, because I was savoring every **** morsel..........

Ok, so like I figured I ate 30 carbs, I am such a ******* that was so much more than that......but yet again scared to drop low at his party I didn't want to bolus more yes call me dumb again and again, well guess what an hour later i was 220, so I took the recommended correction then an hour later 260 more insulin, waited only 30 minutes tested again, ummmmmmmm 295, then I corrected some more an hour later 207 and hour later 165 an hour later 140.........ughhhhh, so anyway, I couldn't stand it anymore I had a headache so bad I fell asleep woke up at 11pm 155 took another correction fell back to sleep and at 1am was finally 96 thank god.....Omg, I so am still eyeing that **** cake sitting in my fridge, it is calling my name, and my mom precedes to tell me after the fact when I stuffed my face it was pure butter, and a milk based icing great so the icing was more carby anyway then I thought, and this was a pretty decent sized cake, I bet you anything it was like about 80 carbs I ate, seriously......

Ok, so now that it is calling my name, please tell me of all the bad things that can happen LOL........ughh but seriously guys it was soooooooooooooooo good......but why did I do that to myself, I got so **** high but still laughed it off, cause I figure it was a worth it high, cause I was so happy and satisfied

By the way bg never went over 130 today, trying hard ****** to reverse my big screw up on Sat/....

Cheryl, don't you have a neighbor to send the rest of the cake to? :D If it was me, I would never resist it. I would offer it to the rest of the family, and if they didn't polish it off, and the neighbors didn't want it, I think I would have to put it down the garbage disposal. I am weak!

I do the EXACT same thing Penny. I will eat a piece of cake if I really want it then the rest gets given to someone as they leave. If nobody will take it, I dump it in the garbage.

OHHHHHHHH come on guys!! What's wrong with giving yourself a tasty treat sometimes? Or anytime for that matter? If you bolus correctly for it what's the big deal? If your watching your weight that's one thing but other then that I don't see the problem. Also, having a high BS reading once in awhile isn't the end of life as we know it.

Cheryl......been there and it's a b*tch when the BS levels keep going up instead of down after a bolus. Things though straighten out after time.........got cake?? :D

Now now now Alaska. We both said we would enjoy the cake.....a piece. Then we would give the rest away at the end of the night or toss it.

Put on the reading glasses darlin.

Yeah but why toss it?
Though I DO need a new prescription for my glasses :T
I understand everyone treats their diabetes differently. I'm sure some would be in shock if they witnessed my eating habits but as of today I've yet to go over 140.....I consider that pretty decent.

I'm in your boat, Alaska. What I would do is bolus a LOT, keeping in mind that double or even triple boluses might be in order if digestion stretches out beyond the lifespan of a single bolus. And then I would have a large cake breakfast, and possibly a large cake lunch too. I do stuff like that without spiking at all, so when I limit certain foods, it isn't because of diabetes, it's because of calories or an interest in nutrition.

There is a guy that my endo sees that is 532lbs and has an a1c of 5.1 ! Now that's the extreme end of it but I've been told with the pump eat what you like as long as you can control your BG.

Does cake take a long time to digest?

Do you have a kitchen scale? We use the Salter 1450 Nutri-Weigh scale -- you just weigh and type in the food you're eating and the nutritional info pops up on the screen. It's saved the day when it comes to homemade goodies. Guess the carbs on cake can be pretty hard. And it's proven to be really accurate on homemade stuff we've used it for. (You can also add your own recipies and foods to it). Glad you're feeling better.

Yum. Cake. Yum.

What kind of frosting was it? Buttercream or whipped cream? I can't handle buttercream. I know what it's made with. (I took those Wilton Cake Decorating classes a couple years ago.) It's all powdered sugar, milk, vanilla and egg white powder. The ratio of powdered sugar to milk is like 4 cups to 2 Tbsp. Whipped cream is better, much better.

Anyhow, I'd be like some of the others here...have a piece for breakfast, one for lunch...heh. I love cake. Having three kids with birthdays coming up in the next two months...ugh, worse than Christmas and Thanksgiving for me!

Next time, just remember this time, and bolus accordingly. I used to under-bolus and feel like **** later. I know how that goes.

It seems the higher fat content cakes and frostings do me in! But who can resist some cake. :D

See, I would look at Sat as a learning experience... now you know you need TONS of insulin for this particular cake... So you can eat another piece with better results. :) I'm horrible. But, my control's pretty good, so it works for me.

Well I didn't touch the cake LOL.....I was starving last night when I posted that, but knew I so didn't want to deal with it, So my will power prevailed woo-hoo, but omg, I have my other son't birthday on the 26th and my step daughters on the 27th, so that weekend before, or after more cake LOL.........God, these birthdays....And then mine woo-hoo in September, but I love icecream cake, thank god I know really know how to deal with icecream cake LOL.......

Yea, the frosting was a milk based frosting my mom made it from scratch, everything was homemade, so there wasn't bleached flour, the frosting wasn't even that sweet and the cake tasted more like a pound cake, it wasn't very sweet, that is why I was pigging out, just enough sugar to feel good but not enough to think it was wrong LOL......

Yea, I need to invest in one of those hi tech scales, I have a little one, but the batteries are dead, oops......I am gonna need something to measure my birthday cake next month, ok so I am focused on having really good bloodsugars till all these impending birthdays and then we will definately experiment more.....LOL.....

And the cake is still in the fridge, but I am not in the mood for it no more, so I am good LOL...
