For all you MDI'ers out there like myself. I am curious so to know what you are using for needles? I am using the BD Ultra-Fine Pen Needles. When I was DX'd they gave me a bag of 3 different sizes, 5MM 6MM and 8MM's.
I personally like using the 6MM's cause they are nice and small but am told that it is for little girls and old ladies. The few times I have used the 8MM's I bled and bruised.
Is there really a proper size one should use? At 6"2 - 170lbs its not like I have that much fat on my in the 1st place, I feel I am getting the insulin that I need with the 6MM's.
Thoughts on this?
And what size needle do you use, and why?

Use the one you're most comfortable with.
For my Novolog/NovoRapid I use the smallest that Novo makes.
Same for the opticlick lantus pen, the small one I can get.

This quote sounds like it's from someone who drives a pick-up truck or hotrod to cover up their deficiencies or shortcomings in a particularly male area.

I use Levemir / Novolog and Novofine which is 30 Gauge & 8.5 mm long needles. I feel that B&D needles are a bit better (probably they are 31 Gauge)

I like to use the biggest, baddest, most jagged needle I can get. I want my needles to scream manly. I want people to see my needles and say, "That guy is total bad a55!"

My favs were those old Monojects with the big *** needles. I found they had the smoothest action and the needles were ultra sharp. Then one day they dissapeared and I've never seen them again :(

I use 3/10cc, 5/16"(8mm), 31 gauge syringes.
The short needles don't cause as many bleeders for me as the longer ones do.

Well, I get my needles from the Winn Dixie (grocery store) pharmacy because they have their own brand that is half the price of bd. I use 29 gauge 1/2 inch needles. I tried the short needles, but I had higher b/s while using them, so I went back to the 1/2 inch. I've used BD, and I can't really tell a difference.

My doctor told me that the littlest ones are just for kids and everyone else pretty much should use the middle sized syringes. I used the BD UltraFine II Short syringes and have also used the ReliOn syringes. I personally liked the ReliOn ones better, but insurance would pay for the BD ones.

I use 3/10cc, 5/16"(8mm), 31 gauge syringes.Same here. When I could use pens, I had 6mm ones and I loved those. The BD Ultrafine II 8mm 31 gauge ones that I use now still do hurt and make me bleed, but these are the smallest ones my insurance offers... and I don't think there are any other smaller ones available anyway!

Use Reli-On .5 cc with 5/16ths short needle. Tried BD Ultra Fine .5 cc with .5 inch needle 30 gauge but started bleeders and bruising. Had to because Wally World was out of the others along with actosplus met and insulin. I had accidentally left my rig on the hood of my car when I went to chase Boomer my dog when he ran out of the house and lost it. Ended up going to Wal-Greens where I had to wait for 5 hours for them to get a hold of my doctor for my scrip.

I have tried many needles with my Novopen3, but the best for me are the Unifine pentips 0.25 x 6mm. I never get a bleed from theses.

Well, wus, I'm about the same size as you, and I use the manly 8mm BD Ultra Fine III needle.
But seriously, my endo steered me away from the shorter needles. They are supposedly for those who don't want to pinch up (you should not pinch up with these), but he said they are mostly for kids or for people with very low body fat. He doesn't like the short needles as they don't go deep enough.

BD Ultrafine 29 gauge 1/2 inch.
From experimentation, when I do get a bleeder, it's from the skin layer, not deeper, so I don't see the length as a factor for bleeders.

I use the NovoFine 31 insulin pen needles 6mm. That's what the hospital got me started on when I was discharged and that is what I've stuck with since. I did try the 8mm once but it hurt and made me queasy seeing the size of the needle compared to the 6mm. And yes, I know not much of a difference between the 2 sizes but it is enough of a difference to me!

BD micro-fine pen needles:0.25/5mm for Novorapid, 8mm for Lantus. I normally inject the Novorapid in my arms where there's not much fat and lantus in the abdomen where unfortunately there's a bit more.

I use the BD II, 8mm short, 1/2cc, 30 gauge
which work fine for me. No bumps and few
bruises(except if I'm in a hurry and don't
bother checking if I'm about to nick a capillary(sp).
I have 5 packs(50 syringes) of the BD Ultra-Fine,
1/2cc, 12.7mm(1/2 inch), 29 gauge, if anyone
wants them. I'll also throw in a couple 10-packs
of the shorts that I use, mentioned above, if wanted.
Just PM me.
