Sounds Wonderfull but...

So what is the next step?

To begin with, the team will now seek permission from the Internal Review Board of the institute to start using this technique on patients

Hmm...wonder who this review board is...how many pharms are on the board....I hope he makes his research public fast before it dosappears.

That's still the current problem. Even with the islet cell transplants that are taking place throughout the country I think only 1 person has survived over 5 years insulin free. All the rest went back on insulin for the same reason they got diabetes in the first place. So, it's not a total cure as one would have to get a new transplant every so many months.

OR Take anti-rejection drugs, which can have some crummy side-effects that may be as bad as being diabetic.

I did a search on this and found it was done in April. Best article was in the Times of London.

I wonder what the "mild form of chemotherapy" was. I'm hoping it was the agent used by Denise Faustman's team, a drug already used for other things, which may lead to a way to keep the killer T-cells from eating our beta cells without anti-rejection drugs. Maybe that would be an ëvery few months" treatment.

I've never given up hope. I'm a glass-half-full person, if only for those who come after me.

What about the genetic aspect of type 1? No matter how slight it is, for any cure to be permanent that has to be addressed.
