My BG numbers are always usaully good, but today at work they were a little funky. Two hours after lunch it was 90 but then when i checked before dinner it spiked up to 124 and i hadnt had any snacks between. Ive had a couple instances like this. What could be the reason?:D

Your liver. Your body stores glucose in around the muscles for immediate use when needed, and your liver. Without this feature we would have to constantly eat.

Could be your liver, could be stress or it could be what you ate at lunch.

You're calling a 124 a spike?????

Non-diabetics bs reach 124. I don't get it.

well a spike as in, going up after 2 hour post meal. usually its going downhill by then. And im still new to this so im not sure what good and bad numbers are.:o

I have had diabetes for 33 years. A lot of unexplained things happen for no reason at all. The 124 is hardly a spike. If you went to 200 yes that is a spike. stress, type of foods eaten, lack of movement, or excercise and many more things can shift your BS. The 90 and 124 are both good numbers.

Here's some very plausible explanations
- 2 bad meter readings, 1 low and 1 high. (all within variances btw)
- high fat/protein lunch that kicked in late
- if you pump your basal rate might be off
- if on L or L then they may be wearing off early
- a one time absorption issue with your basal dose
- you over-bolused breakfast which broght down your early pps, but you under bolused lunch and the BGs eventually caught up.
- you had too much coffee, got dehydrated, and the liver dumped.
- stress at work.
- an undetected infection.

That's just off the top of me head.

well if stress can cause that then its most likely the culprit. That or the high protien diet. My jos is stressfull at most times and im muscle/weight gain diet which is pretty difficult while on a carbcontrol.

124 / 6.8 is not a big concern. As we all aim for 100 / 6 to be "happy" but appart from the numbers we should be out enjoying the world that we live in. :T
