I'm doing the Dafne Course in April

I did a thread a while back and I was saying how bad my A1C was and that the doctor was very concerned so he told me about the dafne course and a few weeks after i got a letter through asking me to go to the meeting well anyway I went on Monday night and loads of people turned up it was accually quite good because it felt like I wasn't the only person who was diabetic was nice to see other diabetics and they was this women there who had done the course and she said it had changed her life loads anyway I put my name down for a course and am going to do it in April i am so excited! basically what they do is teach you how to count your carbs and you have to have the right amount of insulin to match the carbs and they were saying that you can eat whatever you want aslong as you match the carbs to the insulin and you dont always have to eat meals you just dont take your insulin if you dont eat i am just excited and cant wait to go

What are you going to do between now and April? If the answer is 'the same as I'm currently doing and not feeling so well for another 8 months' then can I recommend the book 'using insulin' by John Walsh. It will tell you how to test basal rates, carb count etc and will generally point you in the right direction. I'm sure the course will still help you, but some reading to get you somewhere towards where you want to be wouldn't hurt. It's under £12 from Amazon and may well change your life for the better :)

I did the IDAC (Insulin Dose Adjustment Course) which is very similar to the DAFNE. I found it very useful & am sure you will too.

I did the DAFNE course here in Australia in February this year, and it has changed the way I manage my diabetes significantly. I now feel more confident matching carbs to insulin and managing any strange patterns in my BGLs. I am so glad I did it.
