Today, I test, feeling perfectly fine 62.. huh? check again... 60!... weird..

Why do you guys think there's such a difference in feeling between today and yesterday... any thoughts?

Sometimes it's how fast you got to the low. Did it get that way slowly dropping over the course of a few hours? I feel them more when I plummet quickly. Also, when I'm really busy or involved in something I don't notice until I go to stand up or move on to something else.

Also you're brain senses the blood sugar change more quickly than what is measured in the blood.

WEIRD!! i actually had this happen to me today.
And it scares me. Some of the older people with Type 1 that I talk to tell me that as you get older - the more amout of lows you get the more your body will get use to them, and not be able to feel them comin. Normally from 71 to 81 I get shaky - I am in Canada so that is like 4.0 - 4.5 mmol.
Anyway today before lunch I tested and was reading 77 and didn't feel a thing. Kinda scared me.

Thats called hypo unawareness i think. Basically if you get hypos very frequently, over time you will sort of lose the feelings you get when you blood sugars are low, meaning you stand an increased risk of having a serious hypo. However, this can be completely reversed by letting your blood glucose levels run a bit high to basically reduce the frequency of your hypos.

Can someone confirm that this is true, i remember hearing about it somewhere, but i cant remember the source

I've been there...had low 60's where I felt just fine and low 60's where I felt hypo...for me I really think it's more related to how quickly it's dropped (or still dropping) and how long I've been there. I had a 65 yesterday...I didn't feel hypo, but I didn't feel altogether normal, either (which was why I checked.) I didn't start having any hypo symptoms until AFTER I'd corrected and it was back up to around 77....which I thought was, you know, weird.

I've been as low as 18 and still do not feel it. Then other times like this morning I was 35 and I fealt it. Weird but eventually over time, your body does become unaware of low's because you've had so many.

However, there will be times you'll feel it and times you won't.
I know its weird but ive had it for so long and it happens to me all the time.

I think there's at least two levels of unawareness. You lose it over time as your body ages. Those reactions you get when younger are largely due to adrenalin release. As we age are adrenal gland slows and we lose this sensation. Unfortunately I relied too much on this awareness and learned the hard way.

There is also a micro-level of sensation that seems to be affected by frequency, normal levels, and rate of decent. You can improve this awareness by keeping in better control.

It could be you didn't feel it on day 2 because you were low dy 1. This seems to happen to me too.

I agree that it depends how quickly you're dropping. I've had days when I thought I was dying and been like 68 and others when I've felt fine and been 43.

If I'm full and low I don't really mind, but if I'm hungry and low I turn into Satan himself!

You also need to remember that all readings from a meter are subject to a margin of uncertainity.

yeah, that's why I tested right away a second time... I think the belly full comment might have cleared it up cuz I wasn't hungry when I didn't feel the 60, but I was hungry when I did feel the 65..

I was once 36 and didn't know it...

Although I think it was because I was nervous. But the other day I took my glucose before bed and I was in my 60's. I agree with the comment above that states your body get's use to lows.... or maybe your body doesn't want to believe your going through another low so your brain gives you other excuses to feel the way you're feeling?

...I dunno

I took a nap yesterday. Woke up and didn't feel right but did not have enough sense to realize what was wrong until the cold wetness hit. I had eaten something but did not realize what it was. By the time I checked it was 30. Feel sure I had been out for a while. It has been a long time since I have been that bad. I was alone but would not have mattered if my husband had been here. He tells me to do something and if I don't you can forget it. I did get my mail after waking and found some of it in the trash today.

I have had that happen twice since I was diagnosed and both times have been after a nap. That is truly the worst feeling... when it has happened to me, it took me a very long time to have the sense to check my BG.

I can honestly say that about the 60's sometimes, but I have never tested lower without feeling it.....ever, if I am in the 40's or 50's I feel it....and I have had this forever myself....

On the other hand today I felt a little off, it was time for lunch, I tested and it said 101 I was like yea right, so I scrubbed my hands tested again 60, ok, then one more to make sure 59, yup I knew I was low....

Ok, yea, but then one time I left work came home had the kids, and was starving I wanted a snack so I was checking the blood sugar so I can pump all correct and I was only 64, those make me nervous but then again, I think that since I always feel it below 60 so far, I try not to get nervous about it......

65 is normal for me and I wouldn't have a snack if I was 65 and not planning to do anything, I feel low starting around 60 and down.....

I have tested myself in the teens with a spliting headache but yet able to help myself get back to normal.

Another time I was 25 and retested at 27 and I was able to walk down the street to get some food.

Other times I feel terrible in the 50s or 60s. I think some of this depends on how fast you come down.

Good Luck!

That does sound like hypo unawareness. I have had hypo unawareness. From what I've read repeated lows over consecutive day or even a couple of real lows will increase the problem. Avoiding lows for even a couple of weeks will reverse hypo unwareness. I actually run slightly higher, test more often and correct a pending low to fix it. I can once again feel lows around 70. At my worst I could barely feel 35.

I have had lows that i was fine?? But i would take a precaution to a jelly bean or something that would prop up the numbers. Like i would be 4 / 72 and feel good. :) But any lower i would worry and have something that would make me happy and well.
There has been times that i was 4 / 72 and feel shaky and irritable. Could that be at that level that your BG is still falling?
This disease has so meany questions that we cannot answer them all. :(

when your bs drops below a certain level your liver releases glycogyn and this glycogyn raises your bs---- but if your insulin dose is a little stronger or you thought you ate the same but you didnt ---the driving force would be more ------ that explanes why a bs of 40 one day is ok becouse my liver is handiling it well becouse my liver is releasing glycogyn at a certain rate - that overpowers what insulin is still lowering my bs that day im ok -------------but another day my bs is 40 i feel a driving force saying somthing is funny i feel somthing coming on well let me explain, bs is 40 liver is putting out glycogyn BUT not at a rate that is fast enough to cover the amount of insulin that is driving bs down------- that explains why 40 one day is ok -----next day so so -----next day ok ---next day bad 40 ,this day glycogyn is working fine like any other day BUT---insulin activy is fearce driving right by liver like it isnt even there working for you -----sorta like golf if you put the ball slow it will go in ------the ball being the glycogyn ,its whats neaded it goes in the hole --becouse nothing else there to make it speed up ------but when you add insulin to the ball it flys right by the hole ------like puting to fast goes right over the hole ------remember the ball was on track ----the hole is there for the ball to go in BUT WE ADD THE INSULIN -----there for we control the speed of the ball so if the mixture isnt corect then you will never be stable from one day to the next-- pizzaman current bs 95 starting to raize up a little to much ill fix that ---good thing i checked

I generally look for 6 / 100 if i can but lately I have been at 5 / 90 and find that I am OK and happy but then if i plan to do something physical then i would test and plan whether i would have a snack or not as this is cheap insurance from having a low. :)
