Constant Blood Shot Eye

Hey all,

I just wondered if a bloodshot eye that has been the same for weeks now is anything to worry about? I had my last hospital checkup including my eyes in June and everything was fine then so do I need to worry?

It is just sort of to the right of the left eye and is about 5mm high, it is sorta red but not very strong red.

I just wanna know if it is diabetes related or most likely not.

Any ideas are much appreciated, thanks!

gobbly, my guess is it is not diabetes related. Generally, if you have a red eye it is either allergy, broken blood vessel or pink eye.

If your eye is sore, I would go see your opthomologist right away. If not, it is probably just a broken blood vessel and it will heal on its own.

I have a very similar "problem" in my right eye. My optometrist and opthamologist said it is absolutely nothing to worry about, and is not diabetes related. There are simply blood vessels that are closer to the front of the "white part" (forgot the real name) of the eye.

My eyes are chronically bloodshot. Doctor says not to worry about it.....

I have had this for 2 weeks now and mine is allergy related. It is so hot and dry here where I am and if I even walk out my front door for the past couple of weeks, my eyes feel like someone threw sand in them and my sinus' feel like they are on fire. I've been going out late late at night to do my shopping and everything because it is killing me to go out during the day when it is so hot and dry.

My right eye looks like I have constant pink eye. I used Visine for the first week, but I found this Pink Eye Medicine at Wal Mart that I have been using this week and it is REALLY doing wonders for it. Maybe you could try and see if that stuff helps you. It is by the Eyecare stuff in the Pharmacy section of Wal Mart and it is just plainly called Pink Eye Relief.

Well it sort of go's away and then comes back again, I will take a look at that pink eye stuff if it does not go away soon.

It is fairly feint but I can see it enough for it to annoy me when I look in the mirror.

My eyes are in no pain so I guess I will just see how it go's.

Diabetes problems are on the inside of the eye. There are no external symptoms. You need that annual dilated exam or pictures to find them.

gobbly, i would guess that ur cause is some kind of hidden allergy ... u should definitely have a full examination because diabetes may cause retinopathy and other nasty things..

there are some success stories of long term red eye treatment available at Bloodshot eyes | Eye Care site for red eye symptoms and causes such as Chronic Dry eye Syndrome | Forum and Discussion Board for bloodshot eye and other eye disorders (http://www.bloodshoteyes.org) (ALTHOUGH EVERY CASE IS DIFFERENT !!!!), if it's not allergies then you may want to have a bunch of blood tests to reveal any systemic disorders

My eyes appear bloodshot when my allergies are acting up. I always keep eyedrops on hand. I really like the refresh drops and the systane drops because they come in individual little plastic things. I obsess about using eye drops right from the bottle-just in case somebody else in my house hold used the dops and touched their eye lid or something. If it is pink eye, your eye is itchy and sore plus your eyelid is stuck together with matter. My hubby and I recently played "pass the pink eye" game together!

This has been a life long problem for me. To tell the truth, I think I have some damaged capillaries in the whites of the eyes due to having grown up in the house of a heavy smoker. I look at my childhood school photos and see red eyes even then.

There is definitely an allergic aspect to my problem, but I think I just have primary damage due to my mother's smoking as the basic redness. I have had strangers comment, thinking they are funny, saying things like, "You look like you partied hardy!" Can you imagine?! The way I hear that is, "You look like sh*t"

I do see an ophthalmologist yearly, but he has no concern for the function of my eyes. It is just a matter of yucky appearance and discomfort for me.

Some people's comments can be so tacky. They mean well but why do they think it is any of thier busines to judge.

I had my second vitrectomy in August and then developed Pink eye via my husband contracting it at his work. I thought I had pink eye again but it turns out my retina is inflamed for some reason. I am on three kids of eye drops-steroids, anitbiotic and an dialating drop. Thank goodness it doesn't hurt anymore.

Sometimes you gotta keep bugging the docs so they will listen. Be well!
