Hi all,
Well I hate to say it, but I am seeing some really high numbers after eating for me. Hoping for some other explanation. Wondering if heat now surpassing the forth week of almost or over 100 degrees an no air might be effecting my body to cause this? I know I am feeling somewhat off from the heat. I got a 199 yesterday, the highest I ever had.. Of course I see that I ate some pancakes out for lunch with sugarless syrup before that.. It was pushing the limits I know. But I have gotten by with it before.. My Lunch today which normally comes in around 115 or so was at 148. Am getting some less exercise too due to the extreme heat, but not a whole lot. My fastings had been holding in the upper 80's to low 90's.. Today it hit 99 which is as close to 100 I have had in months?
Anyone else have negative effects from the heat?

Not sure how you are alive with no air...but....
I've actually for the most part had better control with these high temps in southern Ohio. The odd part, I've felt like poop during all of it too and not the feeling from being in a different range. I think in the past month I've only had one or two BG over 300, which is very odd for me.

I believe that any stress on your body can raise BG levels, and I noticed that you're pre-diabetic, so don't forget that Diabetes is a progressive disease. Take care!

Yes I must say that is in the back of my mind.. Not that I want to have to deal with it more than that! But it could be that its catching up with me? Time will tell I guess. My dinner tonight came in at 128, closer to what I would usually get. I know I was feeling out of sorts the past week, probably due mostly to the weather, it could have had some effect along with some not too good choices in food. But I didn't like seeing those readings when I wasn't used to it..

I think it's time for an appointment with your doctor and time to lose the 'Pre' label. :(

Unfortunately you may be right.. I guess I am too optimistic about the possible levels I usually see.
Now I was checking something else that may be a factor.. I had a pair of cheap walmart sandels I was wearing in the yard and I noticed they had cut into my foot top which was sore, I have tried to treat it for a couple days and I think its better but still is a bit red around and was touchy at first. Its in a place where even with socks and regular shoes it is agravated.. I didn't want to think something was amiss with the feet either, so it might be that I am experiencing a situation where it isn't healing like I would have been used to? I just read on the net that if you have a foot sore your glucose levels will be high.. That seems to conincide with the high readings? I didn't think it was that serious, just a stupid pair of cheap shoes, but it could be showing something else.. If its not noticeably better soon I will have to get a doctors opinon. Welcome to the real world!

Well there's no panic about the sugars. They are still pretty good.

Hi Larry!
By "no air" I assume you mean "no air-conditioning." I've been tracking my BG levels for some time and have found that the FBG levels keep moving around and I have yet to find a 1:1 corelation between the previous day and the AM reading.
I have, however, found a corelation between exercise and BG levels that is a bit more discernable. I will easily creep up 10- 20 mg/dl after two or more days of inactivity. Hot weather, while it may not stop your exercise, does diminish the intensity and the lowered intensity will result in the reduced use of the glucose that you put in your body.
So, is there a heat connection? Probably in the change in intensity of activity or lack thereof. Also, stress can, and will change the way your body handles sugar. Oh yes, most of us drink more cold drinks during hot weather -- are your cold drinks other than water, if so, that may contribute to the rising levels.
While you mentioned the 199 reading, how long after eating was that reading and when did you get back to your "normal" range?

Ronin
I checked at just about two hours, maybe a hair over.. One factor that probably helped to raise it was that I also was tired and took a nap before that.. My activity is down some compared to when the weather was more bareable, you do rather loose your desire to be moving about a great deal when its that hot..
As to the numbers they don't look so bad when I compare them to the others.. I see I had a 96 after the evening meal. I made a point not to eat much carbs and then walked in my moms basement which is air conditioned. I had a small bowl of cereal for my evening snack and two hours after that I had a 129. Next morning I had the 98 fasting which is about l0 points more than usual now days. There may have been something about that meal that was even worse than I thought. I think I have noticed before some elevated readings for me when I tried certian sugarless syrups. That also was the peak of my foot bothering me and I was feeling generally off for a while.. too many things at once probably.

Hi Larry, sorry you've been suffering with the heat. I thank the Lord for my A/C every day!! We've had over 100 for weeks now!! Yesterday and today are the first under, since I almost can't remember (if you call high 90's under! LOL)
Stay as cool as you can, and just keep watch on those numbers, if they continue, then please do get to a doc, as was already said, you may have made the leap! Better to get it checked out, and if that is the case, get to gettin to keep it under control, than to let it go in hopes that it'll "go away".

I love rock climbing and have been to quite high altitudes where air definately thins out a bit. I have never noticed a change in bg levels if I maintain control. I guess that is the key, maintaining control. If you can get and maintain control now you can do pretty much anything, believe me.

Larry, throw away your cheap shoes, they are a no-no like cheap carbs. Good shoes or barefoot. You're not at the stage where barefoot is bad, I play in the sand twice a week barefoot.
I agree with Ronin is that you are probably not putting much effort into your movements so you are burning less energy, plus pancakes could put you over. so the heat is an indirect factor.
You may be having sweetened drinks or not enough drinks to keep you hydrated.
Last week, when it was hot,I was doing heavy outdoor work and felt bad, my BS was 110 but I felt like I would have imagined I was at 50. I drank a quart of water and relaxed and then felt fine

As soon as I knew the shoes were damaging my foot I threw them in the trash.. Bought a much more expensive pair yesterday that is supported at a lot more points, those only had the strap over the instep and mine is high to start with, add the hard material and cheap construction and it didn't turn out well. I should have known when I bought them.. At least the cut in the foot has quit being touchy and is on its way to healing now.
I don't drink any sugary drinks, but I did wonder after that really high reading if perhaps the waitress could have accidently given me regular soda by mistake? I had that happen one other time. When its in a large cup with ice I have trouble telling which is which compared to out of a can where unfortunately most diet sodas are easy to tell. Speaking of which, I find that the vess root beer is almost un detectable as a diet drink, and diet 7 up is pretty passable also. Thats another topic though.
We are getting a few days of cooler weather now and I am moving some more than I was, numbers still a bit higher than earlier but down compared to the one that prompted the posting.
