Well I definately need reading glasses. I was going to try to find a way to protest when he said "try these on". Holy ****! I could read everything on the card including the small print - 7 paragraphs. Without them I could barely read the 2nd.

Any hints on what to buy? I'm a total noob here:confused:

He did take lots of pics and said everything looks great! He said to stop by sometime with a cd and he'll let me burn them. He's clueless. He's a good guy, my daughter's former hockey coach. I'll warn everyone ahead of time that they are kind of scary. You may not want to look :puke:

Welcome to my world!:D I just bought two pair yesterday to wear with my contacts. My doc told me to get the lowest number, which is +1.00, and not too easy to find, I discovered. They have charts up where you buy these evil little things to help you determine which strength you need. I decided to feed my inner child...one pair I bought my husband says I look like Bono :eek: the other pair are black cat-eye glasses with rhinestones.....If I could have found some in flaming red...... I was such a sedate person in my late twenties...I don't know what happened!

We sell reading glasses where I work in all strengths (yes, even +1.00:) )

Yes. I went walmart, didn't like the selection. Ended up at a drug store....I didn't even think of the dollar store!

My dad has worn them for years, and he's an expert at losing them...they have 5 or 6 pairs in the car, probably 10-15 around the house, and I know my mom must have at least 2 or 3 in her purse.....I decided to start with 2!

ADD is the one that is for reading, mine's +1.25.

I don't know exactly what the SPH stands for, but I know it has to do with prescription glasses.

PD stands for Pupilary Distance, I think it is, anyway, it's the distance in mm between your pupils when looking straight ahead. That pretty much as to do with prescription glasses as well. As far as I know.

So if you're gonna get just *reading* glasses, yes, you can get them anywhere they sell tham, and you'd get them in +1.50 strength.

Had to get bifocals before 40! I was really bummed out...then I realized how much better I could see. I wear the progressive lenses, as I am really near-sighted as well.

I bought the really light-weight silhouette frameless ones and I love them.

If all you need are bifocals, you can buy several pair to match your mood of the day...have fun with it.

Got a cheap pair tonight and I'm trying them out. So far it's a pita! I can't type and watch tv without either removng them or wearing them low. They glare too. If my insurance covers them, I think I'll go for the prescription ones with anti-glare. These will prolly lead to headaches at work.

Reading is now awesome! :D I can even read with one eye again. That's always been difficult since laser and especially after the vit. But I can't find my freakin book with these things on! :mad:

I think I'd ask the opthamologist about the OTC reading glasses. I used them for a while and thought I was seeing fine. Until I went to the optometrist....it turns out I have stigmatisms in both eyes that the OTC glasses don't match. I could not believe the difference. They also make glasses with different focal lengths like for computer work or an other one for reading. Anti reflective coating are nice too but it all adds up $.

After trying what you did I finally got a prescription pair with the top part clear glass) for looking up after reading and the bottom part for reading. Yes, looks like bifocals. Don't mess around too much. My eyes eventually became quite different from one another. One strength for one and one strength for the other.

Xmenace....My eye doctor advised me to do the same thing this year,and I could not believe I could actually see better when reading. I have been wearing contacts for 15 years,and just thought thats the way it is, until my doctor pointed this
out.:)
