14 - 12.1 / 217
30 - 12.5 / 225
By the time I'm off pred those numbers will be on the way down again!:)

i am psyched because after two months of being diagnosed i am getting most preprandials in the 70's and low 80s!!! (4-4.5 mmol/l).
my 7 day average (includes pre and post prands) is 113 (6.3).
on Wednesday night i set an all time low reading before dinner with a 59.

Mine's from my meter. One Touch Ultra 2. It has a menu option for averages and gives you the 7, 14, and 30 day average.
Using my software, my 6 month average was 101.

i have actually taken to recording my numbers in a spreadsheet (i know the meter can electronically dump them but you need to buy a "special" cable).
so i enter them into the spreadsheet manually.
i also calculate a "weighted" estimated A1C which i will test out when i get my next set of blood tests in about a fortnight.
right now the spreadsheet estimates my A1C as 5.9.

What would your average be for a A1c of 5.9? What is the approximate glucose averages that would correspond with
A1c's? I keep a record of all of my readings. I'm going to see if my meter keeps track. I have a Accu-Check Compact (in case anyone knows about that one - if all else fails - read the directions I suppose . :)

to have an average of 120, you just about by definition have to have some readings above 120 (well, technically, if every reading were exactly 120 you'd average 120)
My goal is to always be under 120. I'll take the occassional 140 post-meal but I'm usually shooting for under 110 fasting and under 120 post meal.
Linda has low standards. (wait, that didn't come out right... she has high standards, for low numbers :) )

MHO, it sounds like you're doing very well with your control.
I think we all have our personal "comfort-zone" , of what numbers we aim for.
Since i've had a cold, I have noticed my numbers being higher than usual (though still good).
Since I'm still very overweight, I am trying to adhere to a strict lower carb diet in order to lose weight, and usually this keeps my #'s a little lower than if I ate "normally." That's one of the reasons i'm so "obsessed" by my #'s....if I eat higher carb, I tend to have higher #'s and my weight tends to go up. I feel if I can lose weight, I might be able to get off my blood pressure meds and possibly decrease my other meds as well.
You keep doing what you're doing, sounds like you're doing great!

Jan:
I think you make a great point. It's really not fair comparing T1s to
T2s, esp. those T2s not on insulin. Since many of us T2s don't have to worry about having hypos, we can aim for lower #'s without worry. Also, a lot of us were overweight and/or sedentary at diagnosis. When we start watching our diet, getting regular exercise and taking whatever pill(s) we need to take, our numbers tend to be lower. Also, as diabetes is a progressive disease, many of us who are relatively newly diagnosed may have an easier time controlling our #s than those who have been on the journey longer.
I hate to think this is looked at as a competition...I tend to look at it more as something that holds me accountable for my #'s, whether they are good or bad.

Princess,
Thanks for the support. I too am overweight. However, all I had to do was stop drinking beer - I am losing about 2 lbs each week. I've lost over 20 lbs so far - just 25 or so to go.
I am watching my carbs and everything else, but I'm not too obsessive about it yet (still getting used to the idea).
What confuses me is that the published acceptable ranges seem to be higher than the targets that many of the members of this forum use.
I guess I don't want to deny myself anymore than I have to.
M

MHO, you'll find different "acceptable" levels depending on where you get your information.
I was told by my doc at diagnosis that I should try and keep my levels as close to that of a non-diabetic as possible thereby having the same risk of complications as that of a non-diabetic. Whether this is true or not, it made sense to me, so it's what I strive for. If it doesn't work that way for me, i'll at least know i've done all I can to keep myself healthy.
I was told my fasting should be 110 or less (this is the one I have the most trouble with), 2 hr post meal readings of 140 or less. ADA website has much higher acceptable levels. Normal A1C according to my lab is 4-6, though my doctor says anything under 7 is good. Again, 4-6 is non-diabetic level by that lab, so that's the range I try to stay in.
Congrats on your weight loss...sounds like you're losing it at the medically recommended rate so you'll probably keep it off that way as well.

Believe me, I need the accountability. Have you noticed I haven't posted my numbers??!
My last A1C was over 8 and I'm really ashamed. I used to keep it under 6. I was obsessive too. I tend to go from one extreme to the other. This forum is helping me more than I can describe. By December 16, I should have my next A1C test and I will post it!

I don't think any of us should ever feel ashamed of our #s. We all struggle at one time or another, and we all go through periods when our #'s aren't what we'd like them to be. That's the nature of this disease...sometimes, our best is good enough, sometimes its not.
Also, sometimes it all just gets to be "too much" and we have to relax a little control in order to get through whatever we're going through. I think we should all be gentle with ourselves and with others...diabetes, whether T1 or T2, is a battle we're all waging.

Princess,
My fasting BG is usually in the 90-110 range. 2 hour value is almost always under 125.
What really stumps me is what happens to my numbers after sweets. I don't have them very often except for fruit. As an example, last week we went out to celebrate our anniversary. One of our son's good friends was waiting tables. He brought us a complimentary dessert sampler (he doesn't know about me). The sampler had flan, a chocolate souffle, ice cream, and coconut cake. My 2 hour BG was 136. The main meal consisted of asparagus soup (a creamy soup), panko crusted sea bass on top of orzo.
On just about every occasion when I have sweets they don't seem to have much impact on my BG. I expected to see something over 200 after our big dessert.
Shouldn't sweets hit your BG pretty hard?

I use 3 different meters, so this info is from the pump, where all the readings get entered.
I am going through an adjustment period now, as I dropped metformin 2 days ago and all the basal rates in my pump had to be changed significantly.

7 day average: 170.
I'm new at this (less than 2 weeks). Yesterday was the first time I had dinner and my BG didn't skyrocket. 136 before dinner, 128 two hours later. This morning it was 132. These are by far the best numbers I've seen.
The part that's on my mind is it took eating almost no carbs whatsoever to get there. I assume the next step is to adjust meds. I've got an appointment with my doctor in a few days and will see what he thinks. Also, from what I understand the glipizide hasn't had a chance yet to have it's full effect (3 to 4 weeks).
It's great to see the reports from those of you who have found ways to get this thing under control. That's my goal. Yesterday evening was the first time in a long while that I didn't feel excessively tired.

Hi tanyatype1, I have been knocking on the door of going into the 5mmol/lt range but to no avail.
I stopped taking insulin with my breakfast about 40grms of carbs, over the last six months because I was going low (around 4.5mmol/lt two hrs after eating with just 0.5 unit of Novarapid. Just lately I been testing my bg at 2hrs and it has been spiking to 10.5mmol/lt but at 2.5hrs it is back to av 5.5hr so I think this spike is stopping me getting into the 5 range. Any idea what could be causing my problem?
