Okay, hundredpercent, from what I've seen, fasting is not required for this test. I looked at the website:

http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/fructosamine/glance.html

When you go there, click on faq.html and I hope it will go to the answer you're looking for.

Very interesting lg. I wonder if that test would be ordered when someone was having many lows that are making it difficult to really know their a1c.

Jack's endo ordered one for him a couple of months ago. It was the first time Jack had seen this endo, and he ran tons of tests so I think this was just one he usually does. He fasted before the test, but that was because most of the tests he ordered were fasting tests. Jack was having severe lows at the time (this was before he went on the pump), but the doc didn't say he was ordering the fructsosamine specifically for his lows. His came out high at 324. The report said 188-280 was the normal range. I'm going to check out lg's url above and learn more about it.

It's kind of strange, I received a private message from hundred percent marked urgent and I responded as quickly as soon as I saw it but he's not read my response so I don't know what's going on. I made this post and I'm guessing he/she hasn't seen it either. Oh, well. I did the best I could to answer the question.

I tried to enter the site address in a way where it could be seen but it looks like I made an error. I'll try to find it again if anyone is interested in it. Sorry for my mistake.

lgvincent,

I got on the site with no problem. It was very interesting. It's kind of funny cause I mentioned in a post a few days ago that the A1c test isn't very reliable if your bg's swing all over the place and this test seems a much better one when that is the case. I'm glad Jack had it done. I hope the doc orders it again after he's been on the pump for 12 weeks or so. It will be very interesting to see how far down the result goes (positive attitude is everything!!).

Thanks for posting the site. I bookmarked it for future test question I will have and also to answer some questions I've had on some of his past tests. Great site.
