I just got back from the doctor. He diagnosed me as having bronchitis and a sinus infection. He gave me the usual scripts for the antibiotic and cough syrup but he also gave me a couple samples of Advair diskus. Is there anyone else on here on these? He said they were to help with the wheezing. Is Advair considered a steroid? For those who use or have used it, are my bgs going to run extremely high? He said I didn't have to use the inhalers but to do so if I needed them.
Help !!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see why he prescribed it for wheezing when Advair is not a fast acting inhaler.

I was on it before, can't remember if it hurt my readings but I'm assuming it will affect bg's because it is a steroid.

hi cin. i'm on advair-the 250/50. it's 2 meds and yes one is a steriod.....the info i got from the company that makes it ,is that the highest dose advair can increase bgs. i think it's the 500/50. mine is the middle dose...and it's not a fast acting inhaler. albuterol is......if you're having alot of wheezing albuterol woulda been better....advair is more more chronic condidtions than an acute one..... hope you feel better! (((hugs)))) just test more.... it doesn't affect my bgs....trish

I'm on the Advair 250/50 and it doesn't to affect my numbers. But then again, I'm honeymooning and my numbers aren't too crazy to begin with...

That's great you got those samples -- 1 Advair disk of 60 puffs is over $200. I'm cringing because I have to pay out of pocket next time I buy them

I'm on Advair 500/50. I have been on Advair since 2003. I started at the 100/50 dose and gradually needed it upped to 250/50 then 500/50. It's the only asthma med I take at the moment, though I used to be on Singulair too. I started it when I had bronchitis, but then my dx was changed to asthma When I had bronchitis, however, I was given albuterol for short term relief of wheezing, then Advair to keep the wheezing at bay. It is a steroid, though a topical one, so it shouldn't effect your blood sugar. I don't think it effects mine, though I've been on it my whole diabetic life, so how would I know?

I also use Advair but use Albuterol for fast acting. I've had no problems with my bg's either.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I can only think that he gave me the Advair cause I have a tendency to get bronchitis. Who knows.

I am also on Advair. 250/50. I haven't noticed any increase in my blood sugars either. I would think with bronchitis and a sinus infection he would have prescribed albuterol. I use Advair due to asthma/copd.

Advair has changed my life for the better! I don't even need the fast-acting anymore...when I first started Advair I needed to use my fast-acting all the time...cat allergies and exercise-induced asthma. I don't wheeze at all. I don't wake up in the middle of the night feeling "blue in the face"...

Next to insulin...it's my favorite drug! I've had no side affects. I only take one puff in the morning...I skip the second dose and have no wheezing, so doc said ok.

Be sure to rinse teeth afterwards as it can cause yellowing. Also, be sure to drink something to rinse particles from throat, they can cause irritation. Works for me! No affect on glucose.
