Just recently i have kinda self diagnose myself as having Celiac Disease. (an Autoimmune disease in which you can't eat Glutin) I am seeing My Endo in a couple weeks for a blood test. I have tried to find more information but the internet seems to be barren with information about it.
Does anyone here have it? I heard its very common with Type Ones...
Exactly what foods should i stay away from, just Anything with bread and flour or anything else? Im looking for specific ingredients that have glutin in it.
Any more specific information other than the basics would be much appreciated...
I'm not an expert, but I knew a guy who had Celiac, and his big complaint was giving up beer.
Celiac Disease Gluten-free Diet Information at Celiac.com (http://www.celiac.com), particularly the section on treatment seems to have a lot of info.

You'll find a whole bunch more info if you spell it correctly; I just googled for coeliacs disease and got just shy of a million hits :D There are a couple of spellings but the one with the O yields hits a plenty.
Coeliac disease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeliac_disease) was one of the first which gives you the lowdown.
I have a friend who has it. The diet is unfortunatley pretty restrictive as his doctors told him that you couldn't eat chips (fries in the US) from a fish and chip shop as the batter from the fish gets cooked in the same oil and contaminates it. Being a bread-fiend, I don't envy anyone that has this. I have a work colleague who is gluten intollerant, though not a full blown coeliac. He gets away with small amounts of bread, batter etc whereas my friend would not touch a serve yourself buffet in case any crumbs stray into the bits he can eat as it makes him pretty ill for a day or two.
Good luck in getting a diagnosis, and I hope you feel better soon.

And another thing.
If the blood test shows that you potentially have gluten intollerence of some kind you may need an endoscopy to diagnose whether or not you have coeliacs.
If you eat gluten free in the weeks leading up to the endoscopy, my friend was told that this can mess with the results as the stomach repairs itself fairly quickly. Not sure if I've got this 100% but would be worth you asking your docs what the score is with the diet prior to endoscopy if it comes to that.

One of my classmates just did a presentation on it. 1/12 type 1s have it. I was tested for it, but I'm an 11/12'er.

I've heard light beer is ok like miller light. I'm not sure though. Anyone know for sure?
Gary
Im going to kinda cut back on wheat, but not completly until mabye a day before my blood test. Then I plan on having some wheat noodles, mabye waking up in the middle of the night to throw up, then going to my endo appointment in the morning.
What i really need to find actually is a semi-complete list of stuff that you would find glutin in. So i can easily look it up on the back labeling and figure out if it has glutin in it. So far i google hates me idk whats the deal.

Here's some to get you going

BBC - Food - Recipes - Gluten-free food (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/mostof_coeliac1.shtml#coeliac-friendly_ingredients)
This last one tells you what you shouldn't eat, which is just as important as what you should

you need to continue eating a 'normal' gluten filled diet for about 3 months before the blood tests and endoscopy. if you have ceased to eat gluten completely the tests will all come back negative.
you have my sympathies. i was tested for coeliacs fairly recently only to find my results were neg due to not eating enough gluten in the diet prior to the blood test.
i dont want to go through all that again so i just minimize the gluten intake where possible...to be honest it ties in with my lower carb diet anyways ;) i know i feel better for not eating the cursed stuff so i dont need the diagnosis.
other people arent so lucky.
if you do searches here on DF you will find this topic has come up once or twice ;)

gary-
thanks man, much appreiciated exactly what i was looking for. apparently my google skills need improving...lol
im going to post that "what i can't eat" right on my refridgerator
shabbie-
mabye now ill just take out bread. I seriously can't sit down and have a sandwich anymore without thinking very bad thoughts (cancer, seizures, ect).... but i'll force down some glutin, I can't knowingly destroy my intestines for 2 weeks and feel horrible, i have work and school, and i can't be too distracted being sick.
If my tests come out neg i'll just have to rely on my self diagnosis or get a bunch more blood tests for other things. There is no treatment for celiacs anyways. Just staying away from wheat. I can do that by myself.
I am 95% sure i have celiac's or glutin intolorence just from my health observations.
Anyone know if it can be mixed up with other diseases besides lactose intolerant?
