My doctor approved 6 times a day, which is a bare minimum for me. If I have a low or a high, it may take 3 tests just to make sure that is OK. My insurance co. gives me a hard time over 6 times though. They are going to make me do a 30 day log, every 6 months, and will only send the smallest amount until I do.

My doctor does 6 a day even though the darn One Touch software says I only test around 4 times a day.

I know what you mean about getting excited for more test strips. My insurance approved the script for 12x a day - which usually I use that many...but I was super psyched when I got my 3 month supply in the mail!!

Trish, just last week I asked the dr for a refill on insulin and usually he gives me 2-3 refills. When the pharmacist handed me the bag I looked at the refills and it said 6. I couldn't believe it and shouted woohoo. It felt like I had won the lottery.:D

my endo varies with her generosity. I do know she gave me 50 refills on my needles for my pen though, lol........

I test a minimum of 8 times a day and upwards to 12 times a day, depending on how my blood sugars are running. My endo writes my yearly script stating I test that often.

Up until 2 years ago, I had Blue Cross, and received 400 test strips a month. When my husband's employer switched to United Healthcare, they cut me back to 300 a month.

when i first started testing, she approved me for 2 times per day... i kept Bit*hing until she upped it, she upped to 4. Kept complaining lol finally i got my 6 per day with extra if needed that is 200 per month.

After i got my first 90 days supply ordered, i stopped testing so much! hehehe so now I have a stock pile of strips 375 left from that first 90 supply and ordered another 90 day supply before my husbands insurance kicked me off and had to start a new insurance company... so now i have 975 strips left to do me until they either expire or until I need more.

I'm such a smart cookie..... I knew that eventually I would need those extras and started to not check so much for a reason since my sugars were under control....

My insurance doesn't require scripts. They only reimburse me for 3 months worth at a time per visit. I asked what that meant nd they said they've never had to deal with that problem. I've taken in 500 at a time without quesion.

Costs me $2.50 for 100 strips. I use between 10-15 strips per day.

It may seem wierd to a non-diabetic, but totally wonderful news to all of us.....It is so funny though, I am so excited to go to the lab and have a needle stuck in my arm now. Duh....YahooTrish you get to make yourself bleed more each day...lol....hugs-Julie

Good job Stacey- You can test for fun now....lol. Too bad we all haven't figured out a way to reuse test strips like our other supplies. You are good to go.

Once in a blue moon, I have to buy some strips at a drugstore (maybe my purse strips ran out, etc.)...it just kills me to pay full retail. I get tons from my insurance co...so I'm very thankful for that! (Aetna/Medco)

I had to fight my doctor just to get five a day. He said he'd write the prescription for five but sent it in for three so I had to get really nasty to get the five. I don't know what his problem is because I use around 12 most days.

If I was Type 1 (or any type), I'd change doctors if they were only writing scripts for 3-5 a day.

I think some doctors have a medicare/medicaid mentality and don't write what they know should be the daily amount.

Anyone on insulin needs to check fasting, before meals, after meals, bedtime and periods during the day when you are tracking ups & downs. Eight would be a minimum.

I wish they would just code the script for unlimited refills for an indefinate amount of time. It's not like I'm going to stop needing insulin or test strips. I'm annoyned when CVS says, "sorry, your script needs updated." I've had more issues with how many units a day I use in insulin than strips. That AVG daily total is just that. An AVERAGE, meaning some days it's more.

Right now i am stocking up, I got the dr. to write for 10x's a day which is 300 strips a month.....But I got thru about 500 a month, but I still have to pay 50 something dollars so every 3 or so weeks, I am buying them, and my insulin too....cause Brent may not have a job for much longer, so I am stocking up.....Thank God that neighbor gave me 4000 test strips...I mean well it is for a accu check advantage, but ya now but they expire in Jan....so I am stock piling high now....

I love all my strips in the house, and insulin makes me feel prepared....now if I am changing sites every four days, so I am making them last too....God I am awful LOL>....

Oh yea I hate that it's not like I have to recheck every year to make sure I am still a type 1 diabetic, that sucks when they do that for insulin especially.....dumb pharmacies...
